Conservatives have been telling me for years that the rich already pay their fair share of taxes and pay the majority of taxes and we don't need to raise taxes on them, and not only do we not need to raise their taxes we need to lower them further, what happened to that?

Hell the last Republican President's only major policy achievement was explicitly cutting taxes on corporations and the elite to historic lows, and you seals cheered for it. But now it's a big deal because of a deceptively framed WSJ article and it's an election year.

I've been audited. It took an hour out of my day and I never met an auditor. All it cost me was what I legitimately owed. They sent a letter and said "looks like you didn't include this. You owe us $500". I checked and I didn't include the income they were referencing. So I cut them a check for $500. I didn't even have to resubmit the form. If I remember correctly they gave me a postage paid envelope, but it's possible that it did cost an extra $0.32.

I didn't enjoy it. I could have used the money, but lets not be melodramtic.

The middle class overwhelmingly files 1040s with one or two income streams per household. Around 90% take a standard deduction. I'm sure there are independent contractors who make a mess of revenues and deductions and end up spending thousands trying to clean up a mess, but most people do not need to spend thousands on a 1040, a 1098 and two W2s.
