Television IRONHEART TV Series (2nd Trailer, post #88)

Another thing I'll give the show props for is the fight between Riri and John. They didn't use the tired old trope of the 100lb girl rag-dolling a man twice her size. That's acceptable if it's a Black Widow, or the woman has actual Superpowers. Riri's a genius, but without her armour she has to use improvised weapons to just stay alive. And it's clear she was going to lose until the security system started suffocating both of them to death.

Although at one point I was muttering, "Use the laser-cutter you stupid bitch...oh, you've dropped it". :)

Yeah, I know about the whole "toad struck by lightening" back story. It was a rare misstep in an otherwise very well written film.

Dude, I have a 4th Degree Black Belt in Nerd-jitsu: I thought Berry was superb in the role, given the restrictions of the script and the large cast. She might suffer by comparison to Stewart or McKellen, yeah, but come on. Those two are true heavyweights, masters of their craft. IIRC, even Jackman was nervous about doing scenes with them.

Agree about Scott. He's always, in the movies at least, been used as a foil, the straight man to the more interesting Wolverine. Jean says as much in X2,

"Girls flirt with the bad boy, Logan. But we marry the nice guy".

Comic book Cyclops is much darker and more intense. To the point where even Magneto himself is both surprised and impressed by how ruthless Scott Summers can be.
I agree, I thought Berry nailed it. And it doesn't hurt she is so amazing to look at. That is a thing of the past now as Hollywood is into weird and sometimes even ugly now. It all comes down to the writers and showrunners. They have chosen a different goal than to make good shows and programming. They want to make statements and have agendas. One exception was Andor....cast perfectly, great quality.

Agree. I wanted to like Ms. Marvel.. the premise was fun.
We made it about halfway through the season and just couldn’t find the interest to finish it.
Same thing with Boba Fett in the Star Wars world. The character was cool but just couldn’t be bothered to get through it.

Yeah, it's a low bar to pass. I'd also put it above Jessica Jones S3 and Ms Marvel, both of which I couldn't even finish.

Ironically, Ms Marvel had a much more likeable leading lady. The problem was the boring script.

I ejoyed the 1st three episodes.
Its really well done, imo.
My gripes are with the basics.
1. The plot. Iron Man Jr. can't get a job in Chicago? And she's going to let herself get recruited by some gangsters? Using her easily identifiable Iron Man suit to do high profile felony crimes?
2. The Hood. I initially thought his look was off when photos were leaked. He looks fine, but I think the cloak should have been clothe instead of leathery. Main gripe is mixing The Hood with Ironheart. Not a good combination. I also don't like the idea of trying to make Parker a sympathetic character.

I like that Han Solo is getting work. And I like that they introtuced that throwback link.
I think the A.I. link is a cool touch (not sure if thats something the tv show introduced or if its canon, but its cool.

Yeah, there's some serious PIS - Plot Induced Stupidity - going on there. The watch that gives people their own personal force fields is a billion dollar idea on it's own. Even though the suit has a lot of glitches, the major tech companies would be backing trucks filled with money up to Williams' house until she agreed to sign on with them.

The whole, "I have to become a criminal because it's the only way I can make enough money to fund my experiments" is such bullshit.

I'm just stunned out of all the marvel shows they could have brought mephisto they chose iron heart to do it. That's really the only reason I just decided to watch the last 2 episodes

WandaVision or Agatha All Along would have made more sense. I never read the Ironheart comic, but I don't recall ever hearing about Riri using magic.

Doctor Doom mixes Magic with Technology. His armour even has a fragment of the True Cross built in to defend him against Vampires.

Also this show has been done and in post production for a couple years.

So I think the last three episodes really helped salvage the series for me. There felt like a lot more weight was added to the story and I liked where they went with it. Nice cliff hanger too.

Well, the last 3 episodes went full WB.
From Harriet Potter to your super power is a triangle on your temple, really jumped the shark. Magic part could have worked if it was a little more organic.
The lame Han Solo twist was just lame.
And I hate the guy who they cast as Mephisto. And that was before his part was poorly written and he mailed it in.
Also dumb plot point.

Riri uses that black magic, brother

Tried to read the comic when it first came out and tapped after the first issue. I doubt the series will be any better.
You just need to switch eras. Go to 80's and earlier and you'll find almost everything not written by Steve Engleheart or Alan Moore is awesome.

To be fair, Iron Man is, for a lot of people, more digestible as a supporting character anyways. I love Bob Layton, but even he couldn't make me a regular reader of Iron Man. The Jim Rhodes storyline was cool, except when Tony made his comeback. Comparatively, it was far, far weaker than the John Walker as Cap storyline, lacking the pathos that Gruenwald infused that storyline with. Tony Stark was always a jerk in the comics and nearly impossible to root for IMO.

If I has to make this show using the same character and similar plot line:
1. Start with introducing Parker pre-hood as a street level thug who all of a sudden is taking over low level crime orgs and is wearing this weird hood.
2. Riri gets suspended from MIT for associating with Zeke Stane, unbeknownst to her; they met online, he's using an alias, while trying to upgrade her suit. Obadiah has been outed as a baddie by this point in the MCU.
3. Riri and Stane wind up being buds helping each other. Stane is trying to build an ethical AI startup, but is anxious about the spotlight. This yields her bestie A.I. and rad suit while she helps him by finding local neighborhood projects his A.I. can be used to help people. She's also kind of turning into Chicago's friendly neighborhood Ironheart.
4. Parker is shown fighting Angels or good magic weilders throughout. Killing them with his bullets or with his claws (which wouldn't be shown, just hinted out with snarling and slashing in the dark). Save that reveal for the finale. Something about Stane's AI attracts The Hood. Not so he can became a major share holder or something lame like that, but as a means to an end (in the comic Parker got a hold of some Infinity Stones and was a problem, maybe he uses it to find another powerful artifact), (Thor: magic an science are the same thing).
5. Riri is looking for the hood and comes upon him fighting an Angel. Hood shoots them both, the Angel saves Riri and also imbues some magic warding on her suit so she's not so easily wrecked next time before dying.
5. Stane tries to fight back when The Hood is close to taking over his A.I.; recycles an Iron Monger suit, or maybe even an old Crimson Dynamo/ Titanium Man suit that could be foreshadowed in the beginning). He gets bead bad; crippled *hints at villain origin story) because Riri didn't share the warding tech.
6. maybe the Angels are Valkyrie? Plot thickens.
7. Rirr with warding tech and finalized A.I. are able to defeat The Hood, He appears to die in a fire/ explosion.
8. Epilogue:
Riri is shown reenrolling in MIT (remote), flying out of her lab into the streets to help people
Stane is shown bringing his business more corporate and in secret building a new suit.
The Hood is on his knees at the foot of a great throne where Mephisto (giant) sits; they appear to be in Hell.

And still explore Riri's family dynamic. A.I. still her deceased bestie.
Zero members of the gang included.
her mom isn't randomly best friends with a family of wizards
Maybe need 2 to 3 more episodes.

So, that just happened.

Ironheart S1/E6 officially ends Phase 5.

Pros:

- Riri is not a Mary Sue. She fucks up, gets her ass kicked and sometimes needs other people to rescue her. The tired old trope of a 95lb girl effortlessly beating up men twice her size does not apply here. The Ironheart Suit is powerful, but without, Riri is a skinny little girl with no combat training. And even the Suit can be severely damaged by powerful opponents.

- Parker made an interesting Big Bad; I'm not counting Mephisto because he doesn't show up until the final episode. The Hood's Powers were cool, although his final form looked a bit too much like Morbius. Joe's journey from Simp to Supervillain was also well done. He may not have his old man's killer instinct yet, but I suspect he'll get more ruthless as time goes on.

Cons:

- Plot Induced Stupidity was very high, even for a comic book show. Riri's decision to join Parker's crew made no sense. If you are smart enough to even get within touching distance of developing a suit of Powered Armour, the big tech companies will drown you in money. Hell, the US Defence Department would probably draft Riri and have her working under armed guard in a government lab.

- Mephisto seemed an odd choice for the show. Yes, he's connected to Parker, but it felt a lot like the writers suddenly realised this was their last chance to introduce Big Red before Phase 5 ended. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the started with Mephisto and built the rest of the series around him.

- As I said above, I give them props for not making Riri an unbeatable Girl Boss. But the fight/action scenes were nothing special.

Not the worst MCU show I've watched - congrats, She Hulk, you're still undefeated - but definitely on the lower end of the scale.

5.5/10

Just finished the show. It definitely gets better from episode 3 onwards. The dumbest shits happened in ep1 and ep2.

How the hell does an MIT student randomly agree to join a gang of criminals without even asking for details of what they do, or even how much money she's expected to get?

And that contract Hood makes the CEOs sign make absolutely no sense. They could sign the contract and easily have it nullified the next day. And there's no way some CEO can just randomly sign away ownership of a company just like that. That's a stupid ass plan the Hood has. Disney's one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world and the writers can't even ask their legal team for some advice on how this shit works?

Yeah, even if the CEO's were so intimidated by Hood they agreed to sign, their own boards would refuse to go along with it. A contract signed under that kind of duress is the very definition of, "not worth the paper it's written on".

The glaring flaws in Hood's plan become apparent when the one CEO refuses to sign. All Parker can do then is kill him and his guards. Which gains him nothing.

Exactly. It's so stupid.

And why didn't the CEO refuse to sign? Just sign the damn thing so the Hood can fuck off, and then burn the damn contract. What's the Hood gonna do? Bring his copy of the contract to the courts and reveal himself? And the whole thing about anonymous owners is stupid af. There's no way any shareholder can remain anonymous from the government. The IRS would never allow such stupidity to pass. If shit was so easy, kidnappers around the world would be demanding shares instead of cash.

Yeah, the Hood was a cool Big Bad, but his plan was dumb as fuck.

Again, it feels rushed. Like they wanted Hood in there as a way to introduce Mephisto, so they had to build the entire story around that somehow. Hood isn't a natural pick for an Ironheart villain. Joe made more sense, since both he and Riri get their powers from bleeding edge technology, and he has serious history with Iron Man.
