I could be wrong, as I haven't followed MMA all too much over the past several months, but I guess I feel that Aldana's ground game isn't too strong whereas that happens to be Pena's strength... I guess I may be off with my point there... Pena has a strong gas tank but Aldana has lungs herself.
We're just not all going to agree 100% of the time. I didn't agree with your Ian Gary takes, but it is what it is. It's just words/opinions/takes on cage fighting. I don't look at anyone here differently. Except for the Dudley avatar guy, he gets on my nerves sometimes. JK. Jah Bless.
Yeah -- with all the respect in the world to Aldana and Rosa, I was a tiny bit surprised with how much people loved their fight. My taste tends to be off though so I guess I'm not TOO surprised, but I found it sloppy myself. Aldana's boxing looked sharp but outside of that, I guess I didn't feel it was the most high level fight -- I LOVED the body shots; it was a good fight in my opinion, just not a great fight. Once again, however, I tend to have different taste than others; I also didn't think Volk's fight against Islam was all that good; very sloppy grappling imo
I honestly didn't see all the hype. It was exciting at parts. But I thought it was very sloppy, lazy not checking leg kicks, and I think the fact that she ate so many, added to the excitement, because she just kept going forward, which is admirable, but FOTY candidate because of that? I don't think so. I also felt that went on for at least two rounds, and then in the third there is that moment where they both said F IT, and then went for it. I get the excitement part, it wasn't a boring fight like the main event, co-main, etc. It had some moments. But I was also confused when Joe Rogan started going off on how amazing it was, I just didn't see the same thing at all. I'm glad they showed up to fight. But I don't agree with FOTY.
Yeah, agreed -- I know both fighters were pretty jacked up by the end, but I didn't feel the fight was all that close to ending at any point either. The big shot never really landed (not that they didn't try for the entire 15 minutes). I am happy for Aldana though -- hard not to be happy for fighters such as her.
for sure, glad she got the win after that title shot performance, but she's definitely got some holes in her game.
That's my favorite mma photo of the year. Two warriors who fought a bloody battle and maintain mutual respect. They have enough self respect to refrain from trash talk. To me it typifies all the best in mma. It makes me laugh too because they look like hockey players back before they wore protective gear. Love it.
