The gains have not been evenly spread. IQ has generally increased more rapidly in developing countries, with the biggest leaps seen in China and India. Progress in the developed world has been chequered - the data seem to indicate steady increases in the US, for example, but a decline in the UK.

And if the Americans of 100 years ago took today's tests, they would have an average IQ of 70 - the recognised cut-off for people with intellectual disabilities. To put it another way, IQ has been rising at roughly three points per decade.

Nutrition and education plays a role in one's IQ so IQ is not stationary in a society. As the population industrializes with better education and nutrition its IQ will increase. With the third world developing it will catch up to the IQ of first world nations over time. Racists would have you believe otherwise.
 
this only matters if they've tested the IQ of ppl who live as tribes and fucking walk around with spears and shit
 
I said this in another thread today. IQ is not some magical measure of true intelligence, it is dependent on a number of factors (including education and poverty). It makes perfect sense that IQs are increasing in nations as the become more developed.

I totally agree but there have been a number of threads about the differences in IQ between the races. IQ levels are not stationary in societies and perhaps a certain segment is not capable to understand that dynamic.

I've seen those threads, mostly created by unabashed racists.

The fact is, measuring the IQ of huge populations without context outside of ethnicity is completely useless. Racists use that information to claim some races are more intelligent, which is obviously misleading.

Mississippi has the highest rate of Obesity. Is that genetic, or a symptom of culture and poverty? Are people in Mississippi just naturally fatter? Of course not. The Japanese have low rates of heart disease in Japan, is that genetic or a symptom of diet and lifestyle? The rates increase when they move to America, so there's your answer.

IQ is really no different. I also question how they even come to these sweeping conclusions about the IQ of large populations.
 
Useless stat. How many 160s sit in the basement playing WoW? It only matters what you do in this world, not how well you score on a test that is essentially subjective.

Give a starving kid in Africa a tablet and some WIFI and you'll see a dramatic increase in overall intelligence.

While I mostly agree with you, I think that genes do play a factor. You talk about the obesity factor in Mississippi, but neglect the fact that a lot of white Americans descended from Europeans who survived famine by naturally being able to store food better, so the propensity to be obese would be in their genes.

One of the reasons for the IQ conclusions could also have to do with multi-culturalism being more accepted, better travel, less homogenous societies, ie., mixing of races/cultures, leading to a superior species.

Intelligence may be increasing, but I don't think IQ is.

Also interesting is the relation between IQ and religious belief, which reflects exactly what is happening: As society becomes more intelligent, religious beliefs decrease.

Iodine deficiency plays a direct role in this. I remember reading a study on American IQ rising directly after adding iodine to their water. Too lazy to find it on my phone.
