IPad Pro 12.9-inch owners... was it worth the price?

I have an iPad air 2 I use for everything. It's a 9.7 inch screen. I'm considering getting the new version of the 12.9. It's supposed to be significantly redesigned.

Does anyone here own a IPad Pro 12.9... was it worth the money you spent on it?

I just got mine a couple of weeks ago and I haven't fully converted to using it. I still use my laptop as primary.
I do love it though and see myself using it more and more. I'm trying to find the perfect app for some applications and once I do; it should be my primary. Plus its easier to travel with and I have a lot of reading and presentations to prepare over the next few months.

That being said, I can't give it a full throated recommendation.
If you do go with the iPad pro, I would recommend the new 10" version. Its supposed to have a better processor and camera and its less cumbersome.

Those prices are also more than I paid. I wound up getting the iPad, pencil, keyboard, and cover for about 1200 altogether.

well from personal experience I have not had many full throated experiences with 12.9 inches

Absolutely not.

Only ever used it for Star Wars Comics and showing off video/pics if friends are around. Never needed the stylus. Otherwise, everything about the 9.7"-10.1" and 7.0"-8.0" form factors I find preferable for general use; particularly the latter. Even for gaming I don't really like going above 10.1" on tablets if I'm in touchscreen mode because the screen is usually only a foot from my face.

Paying $800+ for the iPad Pro 12.9" is just a massive waste unless you know that's what you want, and have a specific desired workload for it. iPads are simply no longer worth that kind of money. They devalued themselves in order to keep sales volume up:
9.7-inch iPad deals: Costco and Best Buy drop prices (for 2017 128GB WiFi model) by 30% and 14%
It’s Costco, so unfortunately you’ll have to be a member to take advantage of the offer. But if that’s no problem, you can nab the 2017 9.7-inch 128GB iPad with Wi-Fi for just $299.99. That’s $129 off of Apple’s asking price of $429.00, representing an impressive savings of around 30 percent.

Even better, you can get the device in gold, silver, or space gray with the promotion, and you won’t even have to pay for shipping. The offer is valid today through March 5, and Costco is limiting the sale to two units per customer.

If you’re not a Costco member, you might be interested in Best Buy’s offer of the same model for $369.99. That’s 60 bucks off Apple’s price, but it’s also $70 more than what you’ll pay if you’re lucky enough to be a Costco member. You’ll get free shipping with this deal as well, and you can also get the device in silver, gold, or space gray.

Storage space is a precious commodity these days, but if you think you can wing it with less room, Best Buy is also offering the 9.7-inch 32GB iPad with Wi-Fi for... $269.99.
At worst the MSRP has been reduced to $329 from the Apple store directly for the baseline 32GB WiFi 2018 model. This latest version is the first non-Pro model compatible with the Apple Pencil, btw.

Below you can compare their specs of these three models. From left to right:

  1. iPad Pro 12.9
  2. iPad 9.7 (2018)
  3. iPad 9.7 (2017)
There's virtually no meaningful difference between the Pro and the lesser models:
12,9-inch-4x3-vs-9,7-inch-4x3.png
  • Higher resolution, but roughly identical PPI (screen size is all you'll care about)
  • A10X vs. A10 & A9 chipsets, respectively*
  • 4GB vs. 2GB RAM
  • 4K Video vs. 1080p Video (because we use our tablets for this:rolleyes:)
  • 63 MP Rear Cam vs. 41MP Rear Cam (all gonna get compressed anyway)
  • 7MP Selfie Cam vs. 2MP Selfie Cam (because we use our tablets for this:rolleyes:)
  • TV-Out (you'll never use anything but airplay)
  • NFC (cuz why?)
  • Slightly superior battery life

Cliffs: unless you desperately want a bigger screen, a better camera in your tablet, or are into hardcore iOS gaming (and desire "future-proofing"), there's little reason to pay such a ridiculous upcharge.

I'm not sure what anyone need any kind of tablet for, especially a crappy apple one that locks down what you can do on it. My laptop has touch screen, can flip to tablet mode, which there is no need for and can run real programs and real games

What laptop do you have?

What laptop do you have?
Probably a Windows Surface Book, Windows Surface Pro, Samsung Notebook 9, HP Spectre, or one of the Asus Zenpads.

It could be any of a bunch. It's the new crop of Touchscreen Convertible 2-in-1 Windows 10 laptops. Well, the Surfaces are still rather unique in that the keyboard is detachable, which means they're beyond the "convertible" class, so probably not those, actually.

Some kind of Asus. I don't even know to be honest, but it works great and can play pretty modern games which is great because I travel for work a lot and mostly to shitty areas lately so there isn't much to do but sit in the hotel room.

I got mine free

It’s a cool toy but for 1200 bucks I’d rather get one of those Chinese dual sport motorcycles

I like a tablet that doesn't feel like I am walking around or taking a shit while holding a television. 8" is perfect for fucking around and posting on sherdog

It's useful if you're going to be using it as a graphics tablet. A cintique that size is almost tripple the cost

I know a couple guys that have IPad Pro's to make music on the go with something small and portable.
