I don't see how its poorly written. I grew up reading Superman, and as a supes analog its far, far better than any superman story arc I've ever read.
All Star Superman is the best Superman arc and I’d put it above Invincible as far as actual books go. That said, its (this Invincible series) going to be must see every Friday from here on out.

Yeah yeah the 1st Episode took elements from the 1st Volume of the series but completely shocked my expectations, it has people buzzing

Fair enough, ASM is an elseworlds continuity right? I find most of the mainline supes stuff really bland. IIRC ASM was like their counter to the ultimates continuity. I also found ultimates avengers far more interesting than most of the 616 avengers arcs.

Haven't checked the show out yet, but the positive buzz has me hyped. Big fan of the comic and have the first 20 or so graphic novels.

Did somebody say Ultimates?

For those that have not read it yet, if you want to read one of the greatest comic book ever - read The Ultimates from Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch!

Ultimates 1 and 2 are good and then the entire Ultimate-verse jumped the shark. Ultimate Spider-Man is also really good. Ultimate Iron Man...well...yeah.

Personally, the most enjoyable series or arc I have ever read is the Annihilation cosmic crossover Marvel had that completely blew Civil War out of the water and gave us the Guardians team that was in the movies with Quill, Rocket, Drax and Groot. It also turned Richard Rider into a complete beast when he housed the entire Nova force.

A couple other Marvel faves are Whedon’s Astonishing X-men and Brubaker’s run on Cap.

I favor DC as far as the books go though.

Yeah, its out of continuity. It’s basically the end of the Superman story, its like John Wayne’s Shootist. DC has many insanely good out-of-continuity stories for Supes and Bats; I find when reading them I just read TPBs of the arcs that I enjoy and ignore their individual continuity altogether. I collect all of the JLA titles and crossover tie-ins, so that is how I keep up with their continuity as far as its relevant to the rest of the DC universe.

The DC Injustice universe is pretty sick. Their DCeased series was also insane.

Kingdom come was elseworlds, and is probably still the best dc comic I've ever read. Their alternate continuity stuff is pretty legit.

Oh can't forget watchmen is also technically dc as well IIRC, through their vertigo imprint.

DC blows marvel away if you include all of their owned properties that you don’t initially think of as DC.

Kingdom Come will never drop out of any relevant all time top 5-10 comic list.
It's a classic and the amazing art helps with the timeless feel. Maybe the best comic book art I've ever seen.

I like marvels alt stuff quite a bit as well, but yeah dc is underrated for sure. Almost all of their animated stuff is super high quality as well.

Vertigo had some amazing shit, like Fables, Hellblazer, Preacher, Sandman, Lucifer, Y: The Last Man, 100 Bullets, A History of Violence, etc. Then there was WIldstorm, with Wildcats, The Authority and Stormwatch.

I still have the trades and re-read them every few years.

Although the series nosedived in quality after the first two volumes, Ultimate Red Skull is one of my favourite Marvel villains. He made the OG Red Skull look like a pacifist vegan Boy Scout:eek:

Just watched episode 2. Much better than the first. Omni-Man slaughtering the Flaxons was sick. The shot of the lights going out all over their planet was chilling. Nice touch that he actually grew a beard because time moves faster in their dimension.

Also loved Sandra Oh's response to being told her husband is MIA after flying through an interdimensional portal,

"For him, that's just Tuesday":)

The Ellis/Hitch and Millar/Quitely runs on the Authority are also good if anyone is into The Ultimates. The Ultimates really hit the nail on the head when Marvel asked creators to reimagine Marvel superheroes. And it could only truly last 2 volumes since Millar went into the "If super tech/powers are replicate-able why not just mass replicate them?" I thought it was a lot more entertaining than Ultimate X-Men and Spider Man which felt like typical reboots.

I enjoyed Earth X and some of the elements would be fun if they used it in the MCU.

The Authority was awesome. And the Midnighter pretty much stole every scene he was in.

"I know what special abilities you have. I can see the enhancements. I can detect the increased electrical activity in your brain.

I know what moves your preparing to make. I've fought our fight already, in my head, in a million different ways. I can hit you without even seeing me move.

I am what soldiers dream of becoming. I am what children imagine when the first hear about death. I'm the Midnighter.

Let the child
go".

I think I might have seen a red costumed version of Saitama in the third episode.
