I checked out this critique of Season 2 and.... everything checks out.
Practically no flaws in his criticisms.



One thing about it though that I observed while rewatching S2 - After S1 and especially its finale the audience wanted to see more of Mark and Omni-man.... instead we received much more screentime of the expanded cast of characters that we didn't care much about.

But how does a show get the audience to care more about characters without showing them? Have them develop from background filler to full-fledged respected characters with arcs... and that's impossible to do without giving them screen time.

By the end of S1 I thought Rex was a cheating egotistical asshole, and I was right.
By the end of S2 he's now one of my favorite characters after an interesting redemption story.

So, going into S3 I am far more interested in the overall cast than I was going into S2... mostly caring about Mark & Omni-Man. (Which explains why I very much disliked Ep1-3 of S2.)

I'm praying they get back to what made season 1 so great in S3 and don't keep the dumb multiverse stuff of S2 around.

Character relationships (not just romantic ones). Real stakes. No win answers.

Cecil being so prominent in the trailer with lines like "we can either be the good guys or we can win, we can't be both" gives me hope

I've avoided all spoilers from the comics... until I just now saw this clip with the title 'Why Anessa, the female Vultrumite, is the most hated character in Invincible.'

And I'm very sure the details why will not be adapted into the Amazon series.

But I might be wrong.

Um... no.
The animation is a huge improvement over the comics.
Its vastly superior compared to most animated series that are now making 9 nearly-hour long episodes per season.

Watched the first episode of season 3 tonight. Will watch the others over the weekend. Really like how it (hopefully) set the tone for the season of being much more grounded and that realish superhero show with brutal ethical dilemmas and family values we loves form season 1

am a little annoyed Marc struggled with the lava monsters and was held back by the duplicate brother after they opened with how much stronger he’s gotten via training. I wanted to see him doing nothing but no sells until he squared off with another Viltrumite

Just finished the 3rd episode and this an excellent 'start' of the season, although after next week's episode it'll be halfway through.

Amazon made a great decision to release three episodes for the premiere and then one every week. Its what they did with the 1st season.
They're not making it too slow like the one-episode a week for both halves of the 2nd season.... without the tortuous months-long break between the halves. That killed so much momentum and left alot of fans pissed.

I've always wondered why it took 2.5 years between the 1st & 2nd seasons, not counting the special Atom Eve prequel episode. Seems like they've finally gotten everything organized behind the scenes and these Season3 premiere episodes were released 10 months after the Season 2 finale.

With 2.5 years in-between the 1st & 2nd season, and that 2nd season left many fans dissatisfied, I would have been very nervous about a 3rd season premiering only 10 months later.
But, these first three episodes are damn good.
I love my expectations being subverted in that respect.

I rewatched S2 over the last week and posted my thoughts in the past page and at the top of this page of the thread.

TLDR - It's much better the second time around.

I don't make many references to TV shows from over 20 years ago, but this is the best comparison I can make -
The Shield Seasons1&2 is the best TV series of the early-to-mid 200s, but Season3 had a dip in quality. The show recovered very well with Season4 and the rest of the series and the dip in quality of Season3 is barely noticeable now.

That's what can happen with Invincible's 2nd season. It clearly has flaws but it also greatly expanded the development of the world & supporting characters.

Season 3 is already better than Season 2

Don't get too overconfident.
There's five more episodes so the quality may crash.
