Is there a way to treat parts of the picture separately? Can you go back and reposition something without having to follow its outline agian. And how do you actually save as an animated gif _in_ Gimp?
Layers. How are you making these shoops!? Please, please tell me GIMP has layers, if it doesn't I'm personally getting every one of you a copy of Photoshop. I cannot even imagine working in an Image Editor without layers, that's like using Paint.
Assuming GIMP has layers it'll be the same as Photoshop. If you don't know about Layers I demand you read this page right now; link
In Photoshop each animation frame is on a layer. A layer sits on top of the one underneath it, when the animation plays each layer is on/off. You can erase parts of a layer, and any that is on underneath it will be visible. When you start a brand new layer, it begins completely transparent.
To get a face to move alongside a body, you can make a single layer above the last layer of that animation, and in each individual animation frame move the layer slightly. The frame starts completely transparent, so the face can be moved in each individual frame and will overlap anything that it covers, while the rest of the layers will be visible.
You do have to click the layers on/off. However, I promise once you've gotten used to it, it'll be significantly better than PowerPoint. And to play your animation in Photoshop you simply tap the spacebar (or click |> play), and it begins playing through each frame. You can set how long each individual frame plays for, and also copy/paste frames to duplicate sections.
However, if you want to change the rotation of a face or change it's size (transforming) you have to have a separate image for each shift. The easiest way then is to get the size, copy the face. Then create a new layer above the current, move/rotate, merge it down a layer, and repeat for the next frame. Once it's merged the two layers flatten top to bottom. It's best to do merge-down, as if you merge-visible it chooses the topmost layer and you have to change the animations again.
I can't believe I'm the only guy using Photoshop. All of your guys' shoops just got unfathomably more impressive.
