International Shoop League Season 2

Thanks for that, I'll try it. To be fair, GIMP is incredible for the price (free).

I also never gave it much a chance. I had used Paint.NET for a while beforehand, and really disliked the GUI gimp had....but it was like nearly 10 years ago too. Each window being separate bothered me. I used Paint.NET for some very low-level game design and was content with it.

Eventually I needed support for more in depth editing (Alpha Channels specifically), and so had to acquire Photoshop through...unscrupulous methods. GIMP is great because it's legitimately free and supports some of the high-level things Photoshop has, but once I got the shop there was no going back. I've always used CS3, had CS5 for a bit (absolutely loved the content-aware functions they added) but it was an alpha version and crashed occasionally. Wanted stability again.

One of these days I need to get one of you to show me how to make a gif the right way... it is embarrassing how I do it.

I need something easy... I don't have the time or patience to learn something complicated.

I would like to have an interface that I can quickly flip back and forth between frames the way old-school animators used to work -- because I eyeball a lot of stuff. I hate the gimp interface... to much clicking

Sounds like you need GIMP in your life. It's pretty simple to pick up, and editing frames is really quick.

I have GIMP... but I do not like it... or have not figured out how to do it easy. I can't figure out how to work just one layer at a time, then flip to the next. All the online tutorials show clicking each frame on and off. Might be fine for something short, but sucks if you have a lot to do.

I am embarrassed to admit that I just use Powerpoint because I can flip between frames and grab individual pieces of my collage separately, and the snapping items to grid and each other is helpful.

Being able to click each frame on and off is what makes it easier for me. Starting with the first frame, adding and editing everything you want, then highlighting frame 2 and doing the same. Being able to toggle the frames on/off helps a lot with placement of things, especially heads and objects. I've been getting better at eliminating the bobblehead effect most of my shoops had with this. Then again I usually try to shoot for the short and sweet shoops instead of long masterpieces, so my advice most likely doesn't apply here lol.

I like flipping 4-6 frames at a time with pgup/pgdwn to get a feel for the animation's flow... if GIMP had that it would be nice.

I'll have to give it a try again.

Is there a way to treat parts of the picture separately? Can you go back and reposition something without having to follow its outline agian. And how do you actually save as an animated gif _in_ Gimp?

Instead of save as, you select export as. Then you select gif as a file, and when another little screen pops up you have to check "save as animation". It also lets you choose a default speed between frames if it's not specified in the frame names.

One of the good things with GIMP is there's usually a YouTube tutorial about any effect you can think of. Yesterday, I didn't know how to do a realistic blood-splatter, but there was a video explaining this in idiot-level terms.

Similar to you maybe, I'm still using the tried-and-trusted methods I learnt at the beginning. I'm probably ignoring 95% of the other tools which I'm too lazy to learn.

GIMP has a 'Playback' function which animates the layers -- although this almost killed my Mac yesterday.

mmhm how are people gonna find the vote threads without having to read all the replies? currently we've had 7 events and Chuck updated the thread with the first 5.

I'll ask one of the mods if they can edit Chuck's OP after this event is over. I know a couple of the mods around here are ISL supporters so I'm sure at least one will agree to do it.

Chuck was around earlier today too so perhaps he will be willing to do it if we (you) provide the links

I'm definitely gonna promote the next ISL season, and revive/revamp my rarely-used twitter acc
(I'm sure Gary Goodridge and Shannon briggs are following me)

edit: Shannon Briggs is not following me in a literal sense

The most recent ISL vote thread (below)

I've been promoting the ISL on reddit after I noticed someone posted Emp's gif and people seemed to love it.

hehe I know sometimes our work gets shared on camel dog and the UG which always cheers me up. The Ronda Ray Rice gif I made that helped get a whole shoop thread deleted here appeared over there and was pretty popular, along with the other shoops for that incident. But mainly I just want to be sure everyone on sherdog can view it easily

oh and Chuck sold that Cormier artwork, people bought the icredulous t-shirts and other merchandise. so many outlets

Never heard of camel dog, but the UG sucks. They've stolen our work on more than one occasion. Some of their members did contribute some good stuff to incredulous Cormier though.

it's a tiny community and totally uncensored. The forum owner probably gets racially abused the most :D

so the gif is still in the thread over there, whereas it got nuked here

So, a point of order going into the elimination rounds.

Geoff's gif was great, he's new to the game, but it is questionable how related the content was to the things associated with the actual event. His submission, which rocked, could have as easily applied to the proposed final (easily won the final after JJ car antics had died down).

How event topical should we keep the entries. His is borderline because they did kindof release this promo in the leadup, but it still wasn't 187 specific.

I might have voted for GeoffJeff if not for that reason. It's kind of a grey area because Jones's car crash is pretty big part of the storyline of UFC 187, but the shoop didn't include anyone who actually fought on the card. Chuck always said it can be ANYTHING related to the event, which technically it was, but perhaps we should refine the rules.

What's everyone's opinion on the matter? We'll sort it out in time for the playoffs.

I thought maybe Geoff got confused and thought we we shooping for the future Aldo/Conor event :)

personally I have no issue with it as his first entry, same with Masato's when he first joined

I don't have an issue with it necessarily either, but I just want clarification because of the fighters involved.

And holy shit, as good as it was for this event... Imagine him entering that in the final after JJ's wreck had died down even more.

That would've been a knockout...
