Anyway, I Dont mean to say this in a way that is disrespecting to anyone but, there is a clear gap in the talent here.
There are legit pros vs a varying degree of amateurs.
So its not very inviting.
Ive seen several people dip out of these comps because they know the same couple of people will win every time and it isnt even competitive.

We had two new winners to 2 of the big 3 contests just last year @Reach4theSky won NGS V8 Here and @MT7 won MS PAINT V7 Here

MT7 also just came 2nd in the second round of ISL V11 with his very first gif so to say these contests aren't competitive and the same couple of people are winning them simply isn't true and it takes away from the guys that stepped up, killed it and won

Yes, I've won ISL a bunch of times but I've never won NGS or MS PAINT. The thing is with ISL it's always going to favour the gifs, it's always been that way, even before I started shooping and the old school guys were absolutely killing it, gifs were king. That is why we have other contests that don't allow gifs.

There is no real "warm up" shoop threads anymore ...
We have that "shit talking thread" but I feel like we need one in between for fun And inspiration.
Maybe throw in something not even mma related occasionally.....

There are active shoop threads all over Sherdog right now bud, all you need to do is look. We have Mike's thread still going strong, we have the Usman arm thread which is awesome and people have still been shooping in it this week. The shoop that Domestic Dana thread also and these are just from the beginning of this year. So in the 6 weeks so far of this year, we have had 2 big shoop threads and a comp, which is pretty good going.

We had 33 shoop threads last year (not including contests), some blow up some bomb that's the way it goes.

Also, anyone can start a shoop thread all you need is a good template. We have done shoop threads for boxing events in the past and they just don't do well bud, this is an MMA site after all and that has always been the focus of shoops.

I feel if you split the next comp into pro and contender categories you might get some better attendance on both sides.

We have different contests for this already and to take away from the gif favouritism that has always been the case with shoops. Splitting up the shoop scene into level categories takes away from the whole point of shooping IMO

The idea is king and not so much the execution. I've bombed plenty of times and so did Mike, hell Mike made one of the most technically amazing gifs you will ever see and barely finished in the top 8. A shoop that has a great concept with average execution will always do better than a highly technical shoop with a poor concept. We have seen it so many times.

Another awesome contest guys and another incredible showing with all the amazing shoops. Some real funny stuff over the two rounds.

Special shoutout to @MT7 who made his first-ever gif, smashed it and came second in this round with a very funny gif. Outstanding job bud!

Thanks to everyone who supports the shoop scene. All the amazing shoopers, the people who enjoy what we do and take the time to vote and the people who donate to the prize pool. You guys are incredible and I love all of you sonsabitchez.

Thanks bro! Now I need to figure out how to actually use PS to create gifs, so that I won't have individually edit a hundred or more layers :D

Good job, everyone, and congratz to the winners! @Arqueto , as always, you have amazing talent and we are blessed to have you here on Sherdog! Thanks to you, everyone behind the scenes, and everyone who donated for helping contribute to the best thing that Sherdog has going on! <Moves>

Thanks for the feedback brother.
It seems to me that people see the same competition threads pop up, and block them out of their mind for whatever reason.
That's why I created this thread, to give a fresh exposure to the contests, and garner some interest in them.
This thread has already got a lot more replies today than the contest thread has today, so I could be right. We need to start making our own threads about the contests to give the Doggers a fresh thread to engage with.
We can't just leave it up to Arqueto to do, he already has a tonne of work organizing the contest.

The thing is bud, the average non shooping Sherbro isn't going to be that bothered, they want to see some funny stuff, drop their votes and then move on to other threads.

I put out the big list whenever we have a contest that contains the names of people that are interested in the shoop scene and it has over 500 people on it, some of them aren't active anymore, but some are and they show their support. We used to get banners across the top of the page but we aren't getting them anymore because of technical reasons so we would get a few votes from people outside of the heavies voting because of that.

A lot of people stay outside the heavies too (UFC discussion forum is the heavies not sure if you know that) and they aren't really interested in shooping. Even a few years ago when we were getting 30+ people entering the contests the sign-up threads and post contests discussions were mainly the shoopers and the people who support the shoop scene the average Sherbro isn't going to get into a discussion about shoops.

As one of the clear underdogs in the Shoop contests, I can certainly identify with those who are concerned that they can't win against the shoop gods. I don't think that, at this point, I'm winning anything, but that isn't exactly the point. I think it's pretty fun, and I enjoy contributing to the stupidity. I was putting Shadface on the recent KO of the month in shoop dat threads and having a great old time, so why not put more effort in?

I think the stickied thread would largely solve the issue. That, and if those like myself step up our game and make things more competitive. Or not. Who cares, it's fun.

Another masterpiece of idea and execution from brother @Arqueto! Well done boss, well deserved. Hilarious stuff.

Sorry guys, I’ve been MIA.

Incredible work everyone. I got to give a shout-out to @caketime21. You’re becoming a GIF goat. That hulk gif got me bro.

@Arqueto thanks for keeping things running. As expected you’re in the lead.

Congrats! @Arqueto another win for BWR!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

You all inspire me every time to try my best and make some funny content. The support of the shoopers, the voters, and the donators to the shoop scene here make it the special place it is and long may it continue.

The shoop scene has a bright future and there are lots of guys who are really stepping up and making killer shoops. 2023 is going to be another amazing year for shops and the shoop scene.

You killed it bud and that being your first gif is incredible. It blows my first gif out of the water and to think you came in 2nd in the second round of ISL with your very first gif is amazing <Eek2.0>

Looking forward to seeing you defend your MS Paint belt this year too. It's going to be awesome.

Anyway, I Dont mean to say this in a way that is disrespecting to anyone but, there is a clear gap in the talent here.

Ive seen several people dip out of these comps because they know the same couple of people will win every time and it isnt even competitive.

The more people join these shoops, the more competition there will be, and the more new faces you will see winning them. The MS Paint contest from last year was my first time participating in a contest on Sherdog, and I won. Who knows how many more potential winners there are lurking on Sherdog who have been missing these contests? We need to find them, kidnap them, and bring them to the shoop threads.

Also, in regards to the talent aspect, it's not as important as you think. If you can make people laugh, the quality of your shoop won't matter. So I'd say creativity is what counts the most. I wasn't the best artist in the MS Paint shoop thread, and I was one of the worst, if not THE worst, shoopers this time around and still managed to snag #2. It was literally the first gif I ever made, and I did it in the most crude manner imaginable. Ask @Arqueto , I was bothering him with messages nonstop trying to get things right. Nothing went according to plan, I failed to create the gif in Photoshop and was stuck with like 70 layers. So I proceeded to edit every single layer and tried to save it as a gif. That didn't work. Finally, I saved all the layers as separate images and uploaded them to some random gif maker website and finished the gif that way.

Congrats! @Arqueto another win for BWR!

He will always be my biggest inspiration bud. No way I would have come this far without his help.

I started shooping 4 years ago and I didn't have a clue. I had never opened Photoshop in my life and I didn't even know what the hell After Effects was :p

@bigwaverider will always be the GOAT imo.
