I have always believed international wrestling hasn’t dominated like the US wrestlers because all international wrestling is either freestyle or Greco Roman. Only the United States wrestles folkstyle thru college. Folkstyle wrestling forces you to hold your opponent down and escape from your opponent. It is a much more control style of wrestling than freestyle or Greco Roman where after you score a takedown you are simply called back to your feet if you can avoid being turned for a few seconds. I think folkstyle is much better suited for mma. Just the ability to get up constantly like Liddell used to do is not really something you see from international wrestlers bc they trained freestyle or Greco their entire lives which never forces you to get up after being takendown. You also learn to ride your opponent after a takedown, something that most international wrestlers also lack.

I walked away from that stupid sport because I had full time sparring available with world heavyweight kickboxing champion William Abdul Jarvis who also attended my MMA Club
