Interim titles are overused and extremely lame. Jones doesn't need one.

Interim titles hardly make these fights more interesting. We all know they are fake titles. Hell, most of us still look at Jones as the real champion anyway. OSP fighting Jones is already pretty lame, the interim really just makes it more lame. How injured is DC anyway? He pulls out of one fight after his last great fight with Gus and all of the sudden we need an interim champion? Honestly if a fighter pulls out too much I would rather the UFC just strip them if they get fed up over it. Interim titles mean absolutely nothing.

There's very rarely a need for an interim belt, if a champ hasn't defended in such a long time that one is required, then we should really be looking at stripping them. If they're good enough, they'll get it back when healthy, as Cruz did.

Inactive fighters should be stripped. I think what they are doing with Conor right now is incredibly stupid but he only got the title 4 months ago so stripping him doesn't make a lot of sense. Aldo/Edgar didn't need a belt to show that it was deciding a number one contender, that is obvious.

Interim belts should only be handed out after prolonged periods of inactivity. We all know that Jones will fight DC for the belt when he beats OSP. He doesn't need an interim belt to make him look like a worthy contender.
