Should interim champs with interim title defenses recoup those defenses when promoted to undisputed?

For example, Tom would be undisputed champion with 1 defense instead of 0.

Yes, People need to just make their own rules on how they view things subjectively the UFC does not have rules for it's own bullshit either. if you win an interim title, then defend it, the get promoted it's a basically a title defense because you never unified, There was no other title being defended.

Tom aspinall's defense against Blaydes means just as much as baraos defenses agaisnt mcdonald and windland. when barao finally got promoted he beat the same guy he won his interim off of. All of his title defense are real too as far as I'm concerned. He has 4 title wins.

Yeah, should, but it's only come up a couple time, afaik just Barao and Tom and I don't think Barao's got turned into real defenses. Tom actually fought a top 5 guy too, unlike like paper champ, so if anybody's shouldn't count as a real defense, it's Jon's. Tom's in a weird spot now with basically just Gane left and he's cleaned out the entire top 5, so he'll have to start rematching guys or dumpster diving for lower ranked contenders.

Yeah of course, if they actually happen.

And if they actually happen, it also should count as -1 for the organization. A black mark showing the whole world they are corrupt and inept to the point that they can't schedule a title fight / invalidating any notion that their belts mean jack shit.

Yes especially when the only reason it's not an official defense is because some clown wasted everyone's time when he had no intention of fighting.

Never thought about it before but I think it's perfectly fair if they are promoted.

Yes, I also feel like a unification fight should count as a title defense even if the interim champ is the winner.

I don't think so, revise Barao's record then. Aspinall has wasted plenty of time because of Jones, but that's between UFC and him. I don't think Aspinall wasn't motivated either to wait it out, the HW landscape without Jones/Aspinall is pretty barren. That Blaydes fight was a rematch for a fight he lost.

I'm cool with promoting him to champ, he's earned that. But champ and 1 title defense is too far in my book.

It is for this reason that I like the metrics of total title fights won.

In the period of time where Jon faced 41 year old bum hip retired #8 ranked Stipe, Aspinall faced #2 Sergei Pavlovich on a 6 fight first round KO streak and #4 Curtis Blades.

If Jon beating #8 who hadnt fought in 3 years and hadn't won in 4 counts, then Tom beting #2 & #4 has to count.

That's why Tom was the real champion all along.
He was taking the higher ranked more legitimate title fights.

What a fucking disgraceful mess the UFC made.

they should declare that tom became the undisputed champ the moment he rematched blaydes, jon got stripped that day, his elder abuse against stipe was just a feature match up, jon has zero HW title defenses, n that they just forgot to announce all this.

He should be at 2 after winning the real belt from Jon this past Saturday. ;)
