The last fight companion has been shared around alot, but I haven't seen anyone talking about the story Brendan schaub shared:

So one time, Brock brought in Pat Barry to his camp in preparation for one of his fights. When they finally sparred Pat hit Brock in the face and i guess Brock freaked the f--- out, because his trainers were upset and told Barry to never hit him in the face. Then Pat was like "what the f--- am i doing here then?" and the coaches replied "just paw man" and Pat was like "this is bullshit".

The hell? I wasn't aware of this. How ironic is it that he had one of the best chin at HW and survived punches from Carwin?

I believe it. Lots of people speculated about this after the carwin/velasquez fights. They needed to keep Brock confident, and hope for the best.

also the punches carwin was landing on lesnar when he was on the ground were mostly blocked by brocks arms. Carwin was swinging wild and not landing accuratley. I think Lesnar has a good chin, for sure, but when he is rocked,he panics.

yeah thats really strange haha barry was a hell of a striker too especially back in 2009. i think brocks problem was he basically bought his own camp of yes man. if he trained at a real gym he would have been a much better striker and fighter overall, would have been much more successful.

Are you new to MMA? Just asking cause this was common knowledge when Brock was an MMA fighter.

His camp had weird rules about what could and could not be done to Brock in training.

Story has been around a while now, I kind of doubt that Pat would of stuck around in that gym for as long as he did if this was the case tho

Bas talked about this after one of Brocks fights. He mentioned Pat but didn't give details.

Brock's a star, and he knew he'd be one after he was done with this pseudosport. That face is a moneymaker for him. No need to bust it up sparring with Pat Barry.

Damn i had no idea. Started watching around UFC 100.

that isnt the truth at all. His camp had to work with a guy who wasnt used to getting punched in the face, and was thrown to the lions.they did what they had to do with that. They had to keep brock confident, and believing he was the most badass motherfucker around. I dont blame them honestly. If he could survive long enough to get the takedown,he was money. They did what they had to do.

Probably had more to do with it hurting than being rocked.

If you've ever fought or even sparred... getting hit by a hard punch hurts. A lot. Even with sparring gloves it hurts a surprising amount. It's like being hit with a baseball bat.

I'm wondering if this is with head gear or without. I would think they should be sparring with head gear and if they are, aren't u expecting to get popped in the face/head?

And they were successful at it. Brock was the heavyweight CHAMPION of the world and the biggest star the sport had ever seen.

Tim Sylvia mentioned it before when they were both in Miletich. That was when Brock was just signed with UFC to have his first fight with Mir.

right but he didnt quit when he was on the ground, those must have hurt too,if he was a weakling he wouldve quit there, but he didnt he just bided his time, and once carwin gassed out he kept trying to win. I dont think brock is a coward,he was just not used to react to taking hard shot and keeping his composure...a consequence of his late start in mma.

indeed they were successful. His takedown seemed unstoppable before the cain fight.
