Anyone suffer this? My partner attempted to throw me to the side when I had spider and I felt a sharp pain in my lower ribs. I had them checked and they are not broken which leads the doc to believe it's an intercostal sprain. It's been 2 weeks and it still hurts to just hip escape on that side.

My question is, if you have had this, how long did it take before you could get back to the gym.

I had a really bad one (probably a tear) and I sat out for 4 weeks and first shrimp I did I hurt it again even worse. Had to sit out another 8 weeks for it to fully heal.

My advice, wait until you don't feel any pain anymore and then wait another week before you go back. IMO it's not worth going back sooner and risking making it worse and having to sit out even longer.

Damn painful. It's hurts like hell until it doesn't. What I mean by that is, take a sprained ankle for instance. It hurts bad but slowly starts to feel better until the more you use it the better you feel until finally it's healed.
Well with the intercostal, it hurts bad all the way up until it just doesn't hurt anymore. At least that is how it has gone with me.
I've read "expert" advice that says after a few days, provided nothing is broken, go ahead and start moving around a little. That all depends on how much pain you are in.

I felt my rib pop in and out, then I couldn't really breathe for a while, couldn't move much. Later that day, it seems like it worked itself all the way back in.

Very painful for about two weeks. I couldn't sneeze or cough or laugh for about three days.

It's been just around a month, and I was finally able to get full on rolling in yesterday. Still very sore, but it's stable and I think I can count on it. The way it feels, and from previous rib stuff, I think I have another 2-3 weeks at least until it feels halfway normal.

Rib stuff takes time.

I never felt anything pop in and out. I just had intense pain. Just didn't want to try to go back too soon like I normally do and make my sit out time even longer than it will already be.

I took off about 6 weeks for my intercostal tear. But I went in early and there was some small pain for a few weeks when I went back.

Are you icing it and taking ibuprofren or anything? Probably not a bad idea.

I totally get not coming back too early. If you are unsure, sit out. That's what I think.

I did that for the first week. Now it doesn't bother me unless I do something that targets that area more than just moving around. I can't shrimp, sneeze, or hit that area without pain still.

Now that I think about it, a month or so before I would feel a bruise like feeling in that area when I shrimped on that side and my belt knot happened to be to the side. Never felt anything when rolling though.

At the two week mark today.
