I'm a blue belt training for 1 year and a half and my goal is to become the best possible in bjj very quick.
I have an amazing coach, but problem is he refuses to teach us leglocks or even foot attacks (we barely do some straight ankle locks...)
My gym is the only one in a 20 miles area.
I absolutely want to fill this giant hole in my game which are lower body attacks.
Do you know some good instructional videos for people who completely start from scratch ?
Is Danaher's leglock video really worth it (considering it costs nearly 200 bucks...) ?
Are there some other good instructional videos out there (for free or not) ?
I love bjj so it doesn't bother me to pay for it but I want at least to find something I don't already have on youtube.

I can vouch for Craig Jones’s leglock dvd. I’m assuming Lach’s is good too since he trained Jones.

Do you train in gi or no-gi?
The Danaher DVD is *extremely* annoying for a lot of people as he explain things in danaher style taking 3x as long to explain everything.

You don't need danahers set.

Eddie Cummings set is 24 dollars. Is primarily a finishing set.

After that it depends on your style. Invert or lifting. Outside vs inside.

I personally prefer the lifting butterfly entries vs the inverting stuff.

Thank you so much bro.
I like Lister's one but the fact it has been released in 2014 refrains me.
Since Danaher has brought the leg lock system to another level over the past few years, hasn't Lister's instructional become obsolete ?

I don't have any style yet since I don't know shit about leglocks...
Thanks bro I will give this one a look.
Edit : I forget to mention that I want something that encompasses all lower body attacks, including kneebars, footlocks etc.

For a complete beginner you need an instructional with a good primer and I believe this one is the most complete and the instructor Rob Biernicki learned from Danaher from seminars and he even uses the same language Danaher uses.

Online version is $97 if you don’t need the physical copy.

I am assuming you are talking Gi BJJ. If that is the case, I suggest Mikey Museci's instructional. Best IBJJF legal foot attacks available IMO. The leglock game has changed alot and Mikey's set has the most up to date material on the new style of straight ankle attacks.

I’ve seen a lot of leg lock instructionals but the one I go back to the most has been Modern Leg Lock Formula

Thank you so much guys, it's really helping me a lot.
Last question : do you become better at footlocks, kneebars etc. once you have understood heel hooks, are there just small adjustments to make or is it a whole new thing ?

Start with the entries to the different control positions, start with the basics like 1 leg x and 50/50, once you get there control, let go and reenter. So entries, control then finish.

Maybe dedicate a month to entries and controlling the legs during your rolls. Once you have the confidence to enter and control then your chances of finishing will go up.

Elite heel hookers tend to have little success leg locking people in IBJJF comps.
Leg locks tend to be opportunistic attacks under IBJJF rules rather then primary offense.
The system Mikey uses is something you can build an offense around but it's a different game then heel hooks.

The Dean Lister one is a good beginners DVD in my opinion, but the best ones out now are probably
"Leglocks: Enter The System by John Danaher"
and
"The Modern Leglock Formula 6 DVD SET With Rob Biernacki And Stephan Kesting".

I am in your same position, I love learning from videos and I don't have high level training partners in the area, but, for the same reason, if your gym doesn't allow leg locks or your training partners aren't up to date about leg attacks, you are fighting a losing battle.

The reality is that you could watch all the leg locks videos in the world, but if you don't practice them, you ain't going to become good at it.

I will drill those with one of my gym buddies before and after class.
Not the best way to learn for sure better than being completely ignorant...
