Indonesia making humanitarian strides

Give Islam power, and reckless use of power comes. It has happened in most all countries it has been attempted.

You always hear the intolerant stuff coming from Muslim Indonesia, not Bali, which is majority Hindu.
That's not to say Hinduism is tolerant, but compared to Islam, it is mild; as far as accepting other faiths.

People have been asking for Islamic reformation. Well, this is what it looks like.

Indonesia has a lot more going on than Islam. Anybody who’s seen the look of silence and the act of killing should have an idea of what I’m talking about.

Indonesia is a wannabe Saudi Arabia in the making.

Id ban gay marriages too. Right thing to do. Go make your own gay arrangement and call it something else. Marriage is between male and female.

why are you denying gays the right to be miserable too?

I think it's a small concession. After all, marriage does not have roots in the Abrahamic religions, and that's where the most staunch objections come from. Look at it this way, if they get the same benefits and drawbacks as "marriage", what does it matter the label put on the institution? Yet, at the same time, if I was of that sexual persuasion, I wouldn't care what my union was called. I think it's an odd bone of contention from both perspectives.

Ive always been puzzled how gays can support islam.

For the same reasons gays may support Christianity: they're raised in it.

No, im specifically talking about the lgbt community in western nations that constantly defend islam and muslim immigrations from shitholes

The gays i know in muslim countries abhor islam and muslims.

For the same reason they defend Christian immigrants from Christian shitholes: they're human beings.

These very same laws existed in the American South until fairly recently and would (I imagine) still gain substantial support from Southern Christians. But we still advocate for Southern citizens and seek to intervene on their behalf if they face imminent harm.

According to the article, adultery is illegal there too. Sounds like they are trying to follow the precepts of their religion.

Because marriage has been about creating a family and 99% of the time across cultures and religions its been between man and woman. It also has spiritual/religious connotations. If they wantthe same legal benefits of some kind of union fine. But dont force me to acknowledge youre "married" the same as the rest of humanity when youre not.

I told you all roads of Islam lead to this, @Ruprecht. Remember that debate about Aceh?

I told you, dude. Islam is the :eek::eek::eek:phile of the primitive religious world. There's just no realistic hope of rehabilitation.

Yeah so much for that Indonesia being the Moderate Islam majority country and so much for that Metal Boy Widdodo.

I though that Joko Widodog is some sort of progressive? Well I wont be surprised if he is one Homophobic douche bag himself.

I have made some threads about Aceh but the usual Islamic appologists here trolled and flamed the thread with all their false equivalences.

Last time I check we are allowed to talk about religious issues here specially concerning authoritarian style theocracy but the usual appologists just want to stiffle any conversation.

Eh... the Supreme Court rejected similar proposals in December as unconstitutional and the proposals I've seen since were about acts with people under the age of 18.

Article 495
(1) Any person committing lewd acts with other persons of the same gender known or suspected to be not yet 18 (eighteen) years of age, shall be subject to imprisonment not exceeding 9 (nine) years.
(2) It shall be criminally charged with a third if the lewd acts referred to in paragraph (1) are conducted by means of oral sex or anal sex or all forms of genital organs encounter with genitalia conducted by homosexuals.
DIPENDING LIVE December 14, 2016.

...and the article about sex outside of marriage has faced similar revision.

Article 484
...
e. men and women each of whom is not bound in a legitimate marriage to have sexual intercourse.
Dipending PANJA December 14, 2016, to be postponed with a note of 3 fractions suggested to be removed and 7 fractions fixed.

(2) The criminal act as referred to in paragraph (1) shall not be prosecuted except for the complaint of a spouse or a third party who is polluted or has an interest.
Note PANJA 14-12-2016 for paragraph (2):
- Requires an explanation of the phrase "contaminated or interested third parties"
- provided that the third party with special interest is intended only for paragraph (1) letter e.
Approved PANJA December 14, 2016, discussed in TIMUS and TIMSIN.

(3) The complaints referred to in paragraph (2) shall not apply to the provisions of Article 26, Article 27, and Article 29.
Approved PANJA December 14, 2016, discussed in TIMUS and TIMSIN.

(4) Complaints may be withdrawn while the court hearing has not yet begun.
Approved PANJA December 14, 2016, discussed in TIMUS and TIMSIN.

The context is the much needed revision to Indonesia's Penal Code which exists largely unchanged since the Dutch East Indies Penal Code of the early 1900s. Of course post-colonial identity politics and Muslim political groups want to put their stamp on the revision.
