Comedy fan here and honestly I think this is a pretty shit era for comedy.
Everyone is afraid to say anything, all this crowd work bullshit is lame and IMO none of "the greats" are peaking.
Louis and Chapelle, even though I would consider both past peak, are still better than the pack.
In terms of who is "in their prime"
Sébastien Maniscalo
Nate Bargatze
Shane Gillis (who is basically valedictorian of the special Ed dept)
Just my $0.02 but I don't rate any of their peak specials to be even up to the material Louis releases just on his own website post him being canceled.
Quinn Dale is on the rise and one of the few currently at a gives no fucks and gloves off mentality.
Josh Wolf... while I'd say he is better at storytelling than straight up jokes, is a funny dude.
I genuinely think most of this era of comedy is forgettable and very little of it will people be going back and rewatching the same way I can watch prime Louis, Burr, Chappelle, or even Prior, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams.
If I am wrong, feel free to show me. I'd love to find ANYTHING current that can make me belly laugh like the first time I heard Bill Burr "Muffins at a farmers market"
