in a close fight does the decision always go to the more popular fighter?

Nah Max v Volk clearly dispels this myth

First fight was Volks despite Max being far more popular but in fairness Volk won.

Second fight Max is still as popular if not more so and despite winning a title nobody cares who Volk is and seems to be un-charismatic even with the belt.

Max was more popular and had much more going for him as a draw and yet he was robbed in the second despite hi s opponent having as much going for him as a paint drying video on YouTube.

The most popular fighter or hometown fighter. It's pretty blatant.

I don't think so. The only biases I see proof are pro champ(which I'd argue is somewhat justified) and in the case of overseas fights when one of the fighters is from said location and other isn't.

Two judges gave Gaethje the first round against Khabib in a Muslim country.

I've noticed the fighter with the lower win bonus gets the nod more often than not when the fight is very close.

Also the fighter with the flat rate pay gets the nod over the fighter with the show/win contracts.
Do you have any stats to back that up? Why would that happen? Tell us.....

I never get when people talk about judges giving this or that. They score it round by round, then add all the rounds, and they score independently from eachother. It's not like they compare scores after the fight and alter them to make sure the right guy won. Maybe they could score close rounds for the more popular fighters, but with the kinds of ridiculous scorecards I've seen, I highly doubt it. I think they are just scoring round by round and then people look for patterns to fit what they believe.

I think it goes both ways. If it’s the more popular fighter, we raise an eyebrow. If it’s the less popular, their win bonus is probably less and we will raise an eyebrow as well.

There’s just not really a way to avoid pissing people off in close fights.
we need a "sudden death" where in the case of a draw or a decision too close to call, they flip a coin to decide who swings first, then trade free blows until one falls. I'm a JBG disciple though.

don't ban me bro, I been sippin'!

They hand in the scorecards at the end of each round. smh

I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. You feel judging is effective in mma right now?
