Race is a big deal in this country. We are sensitive to it and feel strongly about it. How one feels about race can often be viewed as a significant reflection of a person's overall character. But how did we get this way? The answer is simple and most importantly...specific. The reason race is such a big deal is because of the ugly history between native Caucasians and Africans. This is important to understand. The reason we have civil rights legislation, affirmative action, and other things is specifically a response to the experience of our native, black population. White people realized that they had treated black people like crap and wanted to atone and to a degree make up for it. And all of that is fine and dandy.
But here is where things have taken a turn for the worse and infected this country with an ideological disease that is potentially fatal. We as a country have since expanded this desire to atone and make up for past sins against our native population to encompass ALL non-white people, native or otherwise. It's no longer about addressing specifically what happened to black people and how that affects us in the present day. It's now about opening up our culture and resources to all non-americans to the point where we don't even allow ourselves basic sovereignty let alone culture and identity. It's a completely flawed and warped ideology regarding racism and bigotry that no other culture in the world shares.
At some point in our history we arrogantly deemed our country the "land of opportunity" that everyone in the world should have a right to partake in as if opportunity has no limit. And not only that but if you are an immigrant, thus minority, you get to piggyback off of the black experience and be covered by the same guilty blanket. As a result our country gets drained of resources as poorer immigrants looking for opportunity pour into the country, we lose any kind of consistent culture and identity, we leave ourselves wide open for terrorism, and we stay divided among culture and identity lines.
What was once a noble attempt to atone for past sins has now turned into a terminal disease. Its a disease that effects our politics, economy, our foreign policy, personal interaction and relationships...it literally effects everything. And this disease is so subtle that most people won't even realize we have it until it starts to kill us. If we ever hope to survive and cure this disease there is only one answer...
