I'm not Convinced Moraes's chin is gone. Font has power.

I think he felt mentally defeated after he won a decision vs Aldo, and Dana said the judges got it wrong, and gave marlons shot to Aldo instead.

I think that's a great point. While losing bouts in catastrophic fashion obviously will take its toll on a fighter, the way the UFC re-engineered perception of that bout was shady, and I can only imagine how rattling that would be for Marlon seeing the narrative shift like that.

Right, you’re in a streak of adversity trying to bounce back from some tough moments. And even when you win, your boss says “you didn’t even really win, because I said so”. I can’t imagine that does wonders for morale in training right?

A combination of a few things. Font might be the most underrated ranked guy under 145lbs, Moraes didn't take enough time off (less than 3 months since Sandman KO'd him), and Moraes becomes a different fighter in the 2nd round.

You don't need to be convinced, the fact remains he's 1-3 in his last 4.

You thought El Cucuy's stock has dropped? Allow me to introduce you to "Magic" Marlon.

Boy has his star burnt out, his path back to a title shot is almost impossible and should prolly be cut from the promotion

He's 32, is it maybe time for him to move up? He seems pretty bulky for 135 at 5ft 6in.

Yeah, he should be fighting guys that are 6’3” if tonight’s taught us anything.

He turned into Renan Barão...

Check your microaggression, Leaf. Your economy is tanking. All that WeCare money would've helped out during quarantine. The CCP military owns your country.
"Trudeau said the public service deemed that the WE Charity – founded by Craig and Mark Kielburger in 1995 – is the "best and only" organization to administer the $912 million program that he says has already received 25,000 applications since it formally launched last Thursday."

I think the cut might be getting too much for Moraes. I know he consistently makes weight, but the percentage of water weight he cuts is very high. Combine that with being stopped recently too against a power puncher and its not a good recipe.
If he moves up to 145 I see him having just as much of a hard dealing with Kattar/Hollaway/Ortega/Volk etc. even a person who is on a string of losses like Jeremy Stephens I see beating Marlon unless his ability improves drastically and if the weight cut does impact his durability.

I don't think Moraes was ever known for his chin. He is a bit like Alvarez, the skillsets to finish, but not to take a lot of punishment, like let's say Tony could win war after war. But this was, at least to me, a surprising loss.

not gonna lie, that was fucked up. i remember when he finally came to the UFC i thought for sure he'd beat TJ.

He should've won the Cejudo fight but he choked. Seems like he lost confidence after that

Rob is a finisher with his hands. Only like 3 people in the entire UFC BW division have more finishes than him. I'm not convinced that just because Moraes got finished by him after eating heavy shots means his chin is done.

A lot of people are saying Moraes' chin is gone because he got stunned by a step in power jab from a guy with probably the best jab in the division, but they ignore that he was hurt even before that.

This right hand on the temple was the beginning of the end for Marlon. It was after this shot messed up his equilibrium that the jab really started to make him lose his footing.

And this uppercut directly on the chin probably drops everyone at 135lbs, compromised chin or not.

That said, If someone made the argument that Marlon's heart/confidence is gone, I'd fully agree. He's a good hammer but horrible nail.

Yeah, we talked about this in the other thread pre-fight.

IMO This was less about Moraes being shot than it was Font finally living up to his potential. After he got up from the TD, his jab and distance management was on point.

He's a legit contender in this division, which keeps getting more and more stacked with each passing month.

He didn't choke. His gameplan failed. He gassed out trying to finish Cejudo early and then got beaten up.

Credit to Henry for being durable as fuck.
