I get the confusion about it, but I also understand how someone could make that prediction.

To me, it means that they think it will be close and debatable, maybe with one of the fighters getting better of the striking and the other one winning the grappling. Or one clear round each and one tossup. Or three tossups.

Judges are sometimes unpredictable.

Draws are very rare, so it's actually more likely that a very close debatable decision ends up in a split.


TLDR I don't think it's that crazy to predict a Split Decision. A bold prediction to be sure, but not crazy.
