I suspect even Ilia fears this, and is almost scared (to lose and tarnish his legacy, not "knees shaking" scared) to fight anyone other than Islam, who the payoff/legacy would be worth it. If he was A. Silva dominant or confident, he'd be taking fights in this new weight class and starching people.

I challenge you to find a post of me criticizing Islam for wanting to move to WW. He's clearly the best LW on the planet right now. People just want to see him in the best fights at LW, if he's going to fight there, and that's Ilia.
Calling the #3 P4P just another FW is stupid.
It actually makes a lot of sense, his momentum is now, so why risk it. Losing to Islam he can always fight for 145 belt, but giving Volk the rematch or fighting Evloev means risking the title shot at 155.

Depends on whether you think Ilia was guaranteed a 155 title shot. Would you still hold that opinion if Ilia was matched up with Charles, or Paddy, or a Top LW in general other than Islam?
Ole Moose up there doesn't think Ilia was guaranteed shit. I'm pretty sure I've seen that statement the past couple days from him.

yes, before he came to UFC he was 10-0. he finished 7 of those fights. 4 rear nakeds, 2 KOs, 1 TKO and a partridge in a pear tree. ironically which is why the UFC probably signed him lmao.
this is why i kind of don't believe that he's just going to blanket everyone. he can use his reputation as a blanket to lull opponents into false sense of security and then explode with strikes and submissions. i don't know if that's what is going on, but i wouldn't be that surprised if he did something like that. you can see glimpses of his athleticism when he throws strikes in UFC. it's not that usual panicky type of striking or sloppiness of someone who is a life long grappler with little experience in striking. he throws strikes confidently and sharp.
even as boring as people say he is, i kind of like his style, especially if it plays out like i think.

Bro, islam beat Volk when Volk was #1 P4P and he got ZERO credit, so I’m not sure why you think beating the #3 P4P will be different lol. You’re delusional if you think he’ll get any credit for beating ilia, he won’t. Ilia will just lose his aura but it won’t do much for Islam’s legacy.

To be fair, do you think beating Charles again would really do anything for Islam's legacy? He needs elite fighters who are also fresh match-ups. Arman can only blame himself for fucking his title fight up.

Look at DJ, GSPand JBJ’s title reigns, they defended against plenty of fighters much worse than Charles, who’s a LW legend. As long as Islam is defending his belt against credible LWs like Charles his resume will be hard to criticize in the future. I don’t know how anyone can complain if he fights Charles or Arman.
