I have been away from the game for a while. To my knowledge he is inactive on the web. Has anyone heard or read anything about him in the last decade?

Last I read was he owned a restaurant in Ukraine. Was the Chef there too. I'm guessing right now he is probably fighting for his country.

Oh wow no shit, for the LONGEST I thought Igor was pure Pусский (Russian) when in fact he is 100% PURE Yкраїнський (Ukrainian)

Like OP I was trying to find something about how Igor might feel about goings on but as OP said he's inactive on the web/interviews. All I could find was a 2009 interview* (which is just about the only major interview he seems to have given before or after) in which he was asked if he was 'Russian or Ukranian' and his answer was: 'Slav'. (of course in the little prefight clip featured in the old Sherdog hilight he said 'my name Igor Vovchanchyn, I am a Russian...'). So maybe his roots are mixed 'in between' the two. Or he might not see much of a distinction between one and the other (which was a common, or even majority, view in that part of the world until recently).

Bear in mind too he's from Kharkov (very near the border... well, what was the border), which was one of the most pro-Russian cities in 2014, and he's friends with Oleyink and Fedor who were both born nearby (Oleyink: Kharkov, Fedor: Luhansk region) and both have been vocally pro-Putin. There is a twitter account calling himself 'Igor Vovchanchin' posting separatist stuff but I don't believe that's really him, he doesn't seem a social media guy to say the least.

So until we get further info, my best guess is Vov is somewhat 'in between'/neutral and likely just views the whole thing as regrettable. If I was forced to say 'one side or the other' though, I'd guess he's more pro-Rus. Hopefully we get to hear from the man himself before too long though.

*(incidentally one of the other questions in that interview was 'Why did you let CroCop kick you?'. MMA fans/press, always with the dumbest questions...
