Conor is the biggest draw ever in MMA, as he draws huge buyrates and record gates every time out.

People travel from all over to watch him and it pays.

Now, opponents pull out all the time in MMA and to this point he's just taken the replacement. That mentality makes him lots of money, but it cost him against Nate. There's a reason elite fighters don't do what Conor has done. There's a reason Jon Jones turned down Chael and 151 got canceled. It's a huge risk if you don't prep for a top guy specifically.

That being said, if Conor decides against taking the short notice fights, he won't draw as big at the gate because people won't have as much faith in seeing him compete.

It's a really interesting balancing act IMO.

The guy has huge bollocks and self belief.

He will never stop taking these short notice fights.

Sorry OP, but I don't think Conor reads this forum.

I remember a time not long ago when the fighter who is not preparing to fight and takes one on short notice while not in the greatest of shape, was the one at a huge disadvantage. Now it seems everyone makes excuses for the guy that actually had a training camp and just switched opponents...maybe more so than anyone with Conor...

No. Part of his allure is his belief in himself to beat any opponent at any time. Not accepting change of opponents in the last minute is steering away from a part of what made him famous.

So no, win or lose, he's got to take them as they come. More importantly, he has to perform and win.

If I'm Conor I'm still a plummer in Ireland and probably overweight.

taking fights against guys who are out of shape is not a disadvantage.

An in shape Mendes has a very good chance of wrestle-fucking him all night. Nate didn't win because he had trained how to drink and party in Cabo.

I don't know now that he has built himself to where he wants to be I think he can be a bit more choosy. He kind of controls his own destiny though especially since he's his own match maker which btw is fucking stupid. Yea I'm bitter he's not defending the belt so what lol

wtf? Conor is the one with the advantage when he fights against guys who haven't had real training camps..........

stop with the excuses

Mendes, 2 week notice. Diaz, 10 days notice.
And Mcgregor is the one taking short notice fights?

Conor with time to prepare for a single opponent during his training camp would become champion of the fucking world, let alone the entire UFC.

These bums have to pull out, otherwise he'll make everyone look bad.
Exactly. I don't think he could lose with a full camp. Look at the aldo fight...

RDA was going to share the same fate.

Interesting fact...all 3 of his losses were short notice fights.

Yeah its not like his opponents had more time than he had.
Did he ever have to go in with out a full camp to a fight?

Nate was a "tall notice" fight...which is why he lost.

Nate himself admitted that he trains year round.

That "doing shots in Cabo" line was clearly said sarcastically. But of course that was lost on Sherdoggers, because Sherdoggers can't detect sarcasm as they have the social skills of a potato.
in shape and in fighting shape are drastically different, of course he didn't get into couch potato shape. That was implied.

By a normal person standards; of course he was in good shape. By a professional athlete standards he was out of shape, like other professional athletes in the off season.

You're not wrong. I still think he has to maintain that reputation .. but yeah, he's definitely more free to choose now.

I hope not. I've only ever been to one UFC event purely to see the headlining card, and one fighter pulled out and the fight got scrapped. It cost me an absolute fortune to go, and I don't make much money. What Conor does is a huge deal for me, so no, I hope he doesn't stop taking short notice fights.

If not for a belt you basically have to. Everyone else does Conor cant afford to be the only one to pussy out.

If for a belt fuck that.
Tj took a replacement on 24 hours notice for his belt, few fights later he loses a debatable decision in an excellent fight and gets no rematch. Fuck the ufc, they have no loyalty why would anyone risk their belt for them???

Stupid thread. Conor had the advantage BOTH times. Both Mendes and Diaz were the ones fighting on short notice and both didn't have training camp, which Conor did both fights. Conor didn't lose to Diaz because he was unprepared to fight Diaz stylistically, he gassed even with full length, high caliber training camp. As for people saying "Diaz trains year round" ask any freaking fighter that you believe training and being in a 6+ week training camp is the same thing and you'd get slapped.

Taking the Mendez fight got and winning it significantly contributed to his draw power.
Even losing to Diaz he has become more well known than he was for beating Aldo.
I doubt he's going to mess with this formula. It seems to be working for him.
