If you could go back and stop one fight from happening...

JJ vs Rose 1

Fighters in that state shouldn't even be allowed to compete. It should be a federal crime as the incentive structure in place puts money ahead of life. This is likely how we are going to see someone die in the cage one day. Instead we have combat sports athletes see a loss of self due to CTE from lack of brain fluids while they competed and then suffer quietly in retirement where fans no longer see them and/or care.

At this point it seems pretty clear the industry isn't going to do anything about weight cutting. The most that has happened in recent memory is the UFC/USADA apparently no longer testing for IV usage and putting everyone on the honor system. Partly solving one problem and creating another. Especially when it comes to women where PED usage has by far the largest gains/impact to the dosage used compared to men. It's really obvious when you look at the female roster but it gets overlooked due to the lower skill involved by most.

I don't have an answer just a concern. At the very least don't let compromised people compete. If UFC fighters competing compromised is the norm then maybe we need to have a conversation if it's even ethical to allow any competition to take place at all. Maybe if a ban is hanging over their head they will be forced into action. Don't see this happening without federal intervention.

It should be a big wake up call when after you release your training videos, everyone (even your opponent) is talking about how they hope you're sandbagging. Even if you didn't know about the string of bad KOs to end Chuck's career, you knew after seeing those videos that this dude is either sandbagging big time or has absolutely no business in a professional fight. Unfortunately, it was the latter.

Very true. I remember watching those training videos of Chuck hitting mitts and I thought he was joking...

The fight was one of MMA's darkest moments. Chuck looked like he had all sorts of back problems and was very slow and clunky in the fight. Rashad did a good job of being honest in the commentary at least.

Chuck was 48 at the fight - but I know 48 year-olds that are no where near professional athletes that are more athletic than what Chuck looked like.

Tony vs Gaethje

I'd tell Tony to just fucking wait for Khabib.
It looks like Tony had surgery to remove gyro, in this picture.

Perhaps I missed the story on this - did JJ have a terrible/unhealthy weight cut for the Rose fight or something?

If you had a time machine and could only use it to go back and stop one fight from ever happening, what would it be?

This would be mine:

Yeah, Chuck looked shockingly shot. I mean, I think everyone expected him to look bad but... fuck.

And IIRC, the announcers were vocal about how slow Chuck looked about a minute before the KO.

Just a shame on every level. I hope Chuck's paycheck was worth it.

RDA vs Alvarez...caused a bunch of hold ups in THE LW division
RDA was zoning out from LW. Had issues with multiple weight cuts. And Conor was gonna get a shot at that belt no matter who had it and probably would've gotten it.

I don't think this not happening would've halted what was coming.

This one is easy for me, and I've thought about this a lot haha.. But for me it's Mark Hunt VS Wanderlei.. Wandy took that fight on a couple days notice, and he was supposed to fight Saku, But goddamn after that fight Wandy was never the same. He got lifted up off the air with the nastiest combo ever, and took too many big shots in that fight, and his chin was never the same....

Robbie vs Rory I.

Although I loved the fights, the second loss pretty much caused Rory to leave and seek greener pastures. The UFC was better with him in it. He only fought the rematch because of the first fight. I wish he never faced Robbie.
Seek greener pastures, or easier?

Tony vs Gaethje easy. Even after a brutal beatdown like that, i am fully confident that Ferguson is all around better fighter in all aspects of MMA. It was hard to watch Tony that night, him being so timid and not willing to just push little harder like he always does, against better strikers than Gaethje. I will not even try to explain just how easy he would dominate that fight if he tried to mix up wrestling and especially BJJ. Loss is a loss, but that was not Ferg i was used to seeing. Nothing taken away from Gaethje, he won that fight and was better man in that moment...

Not trying to be a dick, but what striker has Tony beat that's better than Gaethje?
