If the UFC adopted the strict weight cutting policy used by ONE Championship today, who would be the champion in each weight class by the end of the year? I don't think it would be as simple as moving up one weight class for everyone. Some fighters such as Max, Till and Khabib have a significant weight cut and may move up two weight classes. I would hope they would finally add 165.

135: Mighty Mouse
145: TJ
155: Frankie
165: Max Holloway
175: Khabib
185: Tyron
205: Bobby Knuckles
265: DC
265+?: Curtis Blaydes

Thoughts?

Frankie could probably make 135, 145 isn't bad for him.
Bobby Knuckles use to fight at 170, don't remeber him missing weight.
Don't think the 185lbs weight cut is that tough for him.

Till would be at 205, Khabib would be at 185, and Max would likely be at 175 with One FC's hydration testing and weight cut policy.

Can't miss weight when the weigh-ins aren't public and actual weights aren't disclosed

Conor would never be champ....

That's a fact and the reason why the UFC doesn't want to implement this.

I think fighters like Khabib and Till would still diet down to a lower weight without water manipulation. I think to remain in smaller weight classes they would manage their diet better and lose actual weight rather than water leading up to weigh ins. I could see Till at 205 tho possibly. They don't call him a gorilla for nothing.

i also like Jungle Fight's approach to missing weight:

if a fighter missed weight, a point is deducted from the final scorecard of the offending fighter, and he or she were fined 20% of purse. Miss by over 2.2lbs (1kg) and the fighter loses another point. Miss by more than 4.4lbs (2kgs) and the fighter loses three points in total.
it's too bad that UFC is so tethered to a multitude of state agencies that implement any change in slow motion. i hope when Unified Rules v4 comes out in 5 or so years, weight cut rules are enacted. i also hope no one dies before that.

I don't like the idea of docking points (if it's that bad, call the fight off), but otherwise I agree. It should also be required in the regulations that fighters receive a minimum level of pay if their opponent misses. I'm fine with someone who's schedule to make $500k + PPV not getting everything, but someone making $10k/$10k should get at least their show money regardless of if a replacement that the promotion likes is available or not.

it would never fly with the AC's. no way in hell. but it's a novel approach :)

Yea, too many (probably all) ACs are seen as a money making arm of the government, rather than a regulatory/safety one.

That and getting AC's to agree is seemingly impossible. The "unified new mma rules" have been out for how long now, and still like half of them have not accepted it?

Don't they also have very different weigh in protocols and rules
?

Fights that take place outside of the weight class should be exhibition matches and not count toward ranking if the fighters still agree to the bout or scratch the bout.
I have a problem with guys moving up the rankings when they come in heavy and win.

I used to compete in kickboxing and promoters had no control over the weight issue. The athletic commission protected the integrity of the ranking system and title fights. If we missed weight then we were not competing in the class, simple as that.

The ufc has no consistency in their treatment of ranking and weight classes. They are not taking extreme cutting or the rankings seriously like a real sport should. They walk the fine line between sport and entertainment, wwe style. It harms legitimacy and could be dangerous.

My thoughts are you absolutely don't watch One FC nor do you understand the impact the weight rules have made when it comes to fighters changing weight in One FC.As far as what I think about it,i'll leave that up to you guys to fumble around with.

Hydration testing just makes for a way healthier sport

I think fighting should be banned from the sport of weight cutting
