Khabib on a 10 if he wins..

Is that what it takes to get a title shit these days?

Well at least we have a legit title fight right now.

Oh wait.

I think it is also a reflection on how deep the division is .
which is also a credit to both fighters to keep their respective win streaks going .
It's also why most fighters see Tony as the real champ @ 155

5 away from the record. Super impressive, no matter how you spin it.

I'd say whoever wins this fight is well on their way to being the greatest LW of all time.

Khabib and Tony are both bums compared to Conor. He could beat 'em both in the same night.

If Tony beats Khabib, he should be top 3 LW GOATs ever!

PROs:
- UFC champion;
- great record;
- only one time finished (not in UFC);
- top UFC winning streak;
- great finishing rate;
- exciting fighting style;
- his only loss in UFC (decision) was due to his broken arm;

CONs;
- not the best competition - he has wins over Barboza, Lee, Anjos;

But if he loses - many fans would forget his streak.

The "you're only as good as your last fight" mantra is still strong. (Unless you are a legend who "dominated the division for X years")

Let's say Khabib wins.
If he then for some reason gets badly injured and can't fight for a year, the forum debate would be who should get the shot instead, and then I bet many Sherdoggers would just say Tony is not an option because "he's coming off a loss and is 1-1 in his last two fights" , as if those past 10 fights never existed.

Yea and Khabib will be on a 26 fight win streak lol.
I keep wondering about the level of competition he fought before the UFC.

Once a fighter reaches a few years in the UFC I tend to start dismissing any previous local low level fights they have on their record.
For instance, I wouldn't be more convinced by any established UFC fighter if I knew they 16 straight wins against some russian no-names...

But on the other hand I must admit it IS quite impressive to win 16 straight fights anywhere, cause most guys tend to lose a few while they are coming up. Just fighting that many times there's a large chance you'll lose sooner or later, just by getting caught.

They weren't all no-names. The Russian MMA scene is filled with talent with extensive amateur backgrounds. People really try to downplay the guys Khabib fought. Assuming all his opponents records are even well-recorded (Many fighters from Asia/Russia don't have complete FF records). Its not like the UK/Ireland scenes where most people watch MMA on TV, think its cool and decide to have a go at it. At least in the US, you have wrestling in high school and at least half the guys getting into MMA have amateur experience.

He beat Oleg Bagov who's a multiple time Russian Combat Sambo champion, 3x Russian UWW Grappling champion, 2011 UWW World Grappling champion, 2013 World Combat Games gold medalist. He placed 3rd just this year alone at FIAS Russian Combat Sambo championships, all while he's an active MMA fighter.

He beat Vadim Sandulsky, who's a multiple time Moldova Combat Sambo champ, decorated in Judo.

He beat Eldar Eldarov, his teammate and multiple time Russian Combat Sambo champ and World medalist. Now works as the national coach for MMA in Bahrain.

He beat Shahbulat Shamlaev, winner of the Bellator 2012 Featherweight Tournament, decorated in Sanda.

These aren't taxi drivers. These are guys who legit trained for martial arts their entire life.
