If this is a negotiation tactic, it's the worst I've ever seen.

I've seen some real stupid comments regarding McGregor's "retirement" saying this is one of the "smartest negotiation tactics ever" and great that Conor is "sticking it to the man" and representing all fighters....

Jesus christ, if this is some negotiation tactic, Conor just made the one of the worst moves I've seen. Who manages this baby? Dropping out of the biggest UFC event's MAIN EVENT (where you weren't even defending your belt to begin with, more idiocy) Costing your employers hundreds of thousands upon potentially millions of dollars, and putting them in a tight position to find a replacement for one of the most stubborn fighters in the division is not going to get Connor his purse. Secondly, do you think

Say you're Dana White. Are you convinced Connor suddenly wants to stop fighting? (especially since he's training in Iceland.) Are you convinced he doesn't want to avenge his loss to Nate? Are you convinced that he would go ANYWHERE else and fight guys who are nothing in his eyes? Absolutely not. The UFC has massive leverage in this situation. If Conor doesn't want to fight, fine, don't have him fight. We've heard from Dana before, he doesn't let guys in his promotion who attempt to outmuscle him get that kind of leverage (Diaz, Tito, Randy, even Askren)

Say now Connor actually gets his purse, do you really think Nate's gonna take the fight after it's called off? Or especially after Connor gets the pay bump? No, Nate now is going for the title fight and that's about it.

Bottom line, this is a bitch move by a good fighter who could have made great money in this rematch, but this larger than life mentality seemingly caught up with him here. The fight is off, he won't get this supposed money he's asking for. That's it.

What a way to go out...

Who says this is a negotiation tactic???

Dude talked smack, got #EXPOSED, has to fight the same dude with a full training camp now...

Simply caved in from the pressure and doesn't want his brand gimmick to take any further damage.

It's not worse than the tactics used by Vadim Finklestein.
You wanna see the worst negotiation tactics?
Look no further than Fedor!

I agree, conor needs the ufc way more than they need conor, all conor did was show them what happens when you invest in marketing a guy with the slightest bit of charisma, there will be a million more conors, he ruined his chance of being the only one

It's not. He played chicken and lost. Can people even add 2 + 2 ? He had to " retire " to avoid looking like the biggest bitch in history. Unfortunately it didn't work. His legacy is cemented until the end of time. It's not something anyone will forget or overlook. Even his huggers must see it all now. The man is unworthy of having a single fan. They mean NOTHING to him. The only thing that matters to Conor is Conor.

He just lost the biggest bluff the promotion has ever seen. Now he has to pay the price. He may be standing up to tyranny in his own mind. In mine he just pissed it all away. He will fight again. He will be paid well. But this will never be forgotten. Like his fans, he valued himself way more than anyone else did. He took his ball and went home. It's no skin off my nose. In fact I think it's funny as hell.

I think this was a huge mistake too. He was thinking the UFC was going to beg him to come back. Well George is probably on the way already. Conor is on his prime and was about the headline the biggest UFC event to date. The guy is destroying his career, I think he would still be the FW king and could possible crack the LW belt, what a same.

That makes no sense. His brand image is now essentially worthless. The money he earned so far would be a fraction of what he'd earn over the next few years if he kept winning; even if only at FW.

It clearly isn't much of a negotiation move either though. He just lost his biggest payday. But the way Dana reacted so reasonably make me very suspicious.

That catch weight fight messed his money up.

He never "had" to fight Nate. He demanded that he fight Nate.

I agree. Really terrible idea it seems.

Well, it's certainly not going the way I imagine he thought it would. He has proven, once again, that he is a big draw for media and fan attention, so to that extent it hasn't completely failed. But the UFC will take a hard line with him and they've done a good job showing that they're not going to make exceptions, even for Conor. My guess is he's back before the end of the year though.

Yep. The UFC made Conor Mcgregor....Conor McGregor didn't make the UFC.

I just want to remind people Dana pulled this 'tactic' with Nick Diaz. He will respond in a day or two with "if Conor wants the big money he needs to attend pressers to promote the fight." You guys don't remember that canned script he used on Nick? Probably got that line from "Uncle Frank"

BIZARRE! connie becoming the irish mayhem miller!!

Your point just lost all credibility with that gif. But FYI Conor is not like any other fighter on the roster period in terms of drawing power both casual and hardcore and if you let go of the hate for more than five minutes you would see this, he all but broke the internet with his tweet, who else could have done that? Answer, nobody.

Negotiation sales one o one.

Conor made his request for the business

The business declined.

First person to open their mouth loses.

I know this will be over the head of many young sherdog youth but my grown ups will know exactly what I mean.

Whoever does an interview "first" Dana or Conor about this whole situation loses.

My bet is on Dana wins.

Conor as anything but not a Ufc fighter won't bring in the cash he's used to.

Dana broke the will of nick Diaz. Conor got broke by the will of Nate.

It's Mma business math at its finest.

Conor will speak and complain. Dana will laugh. Won't budge. Remind everyone you must do press. And Conor will fight again at the rate the Ufc offers and not a penny more
