6 months off is 2 fights a year not counting training camp.

Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis hasn't fought in 9 months

Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez hasn't fought in 7 months and isn't fighting until November.... Over a year between fights. And has been +6 months between fights 3 times in his last 5 fights.

Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman will have been 7 months by the time he fights Machida.

Anderson Silva had 6+ months for 4 of his title fights.

Dominick Cruz was out for nearly 15 months before having his title stripped.

Jose Aldo had almost a year between fighting Mendes and Edgar.

Georges St. Pierre had 6+ months for 4 of his title fights on his last run as champ.

Need any more examples....

6 months between fights has pretty much become the norm for champions in the UFC.
