If Stipe wins tonight, will he be the least popular HW champ ever? Even MM has more fans.

Are we going to witness tonight the greatest change in paradigm in the history of MMA where the smallest champ is more popular than the heaviest? It would be a historical moment for MMA and short men.

As a 5'5" man myself, I say... WAR STIPE!!!!

A victory for Stipe will be a big step for all short men out there.

The biggest names in combat sports right now are Mayweather, Conor and MM. A victory for Stipe will be the final nail in the coffin for 'big' men. #Revolution #SmallerWeightClassesBestMMA

Stipe just won't win. He has nothing for Werdum. Quote me on that, bitches.

Ricco Rodriguez was an even more "obscure" champion. Even today not many people even know who he is much less know he was a UFC heavyweight champion.

Dave Menne

Any new champion (With the exception of Conor) has been pretty much unknown to casuals.

Stipe will not be any more unpopular than Werdum, and will have a foreign market behind him. I don't see your comparison being accurate.

Mouse vs Dodson 2 did less then 150K PPV buys. Pretty sad.

Yeah you got a point there but if we stick to modern MMA (2010+), Stipe would be the least popular BY FAR.

He was still 10,000 times more popular than Tim Silvia.

True but Mouse's stock has risen considerably lately, he's got a lot of fans now that he's about to break Silva's records.

Carla Esparza?

Oh yeah, because Werdum is such a draw, heavyweight has been going downhill since Brock left.

Stipe is just boring. No diss, but Stipe makes MM look like the world's most interesting man. At the end of the day though may the best man win.

I'd go with Carla if you're going to limit it to 2010 and later. Since your thread title says "least popular HW champ ever," I'd also throw out Big Tim.

What you seem to be forgetting is that if Stipe wins, he'll immediately get way more fans. MMA fans are terrible front runners.

And lulz at MM being one of the 3 biggest names in combat sports.

What's this all about? I thought Stipe was fairly popular? I like him, but not a huge fan.

Tim Sylvia didn't have a single fan, I don't think. Even his training partners hated him.

I have a feeling Stipe doesn't give a fuck about this. Neither do i.

I know who he is and what he can do in there. That's enough for me.

I for one can't possibly begin to imagine how either Stipe or MM wouldn't be popular amongst people who actually watch, follow, and enjoy MMA.
