There's a reason why pretty much every mma fighter -- including khabib and islam -- have BJJ coaches, whereas most mma fighters don't need sambo coaches.

Modern day competition BJJ is one of the most terrible bases for MMA. No explosion, guard flopping, subpar takedown arsenal, etc.

It’s cute if you want to be a nerd and roll with soccer moms and out of shape Magic the Gathering players, but Sambo is a much better base for MMA.

Depends what country you live in. In most countries sambo is almost non-existent and the most skilled and fittest submission grapplers will be in BJJ gyms or BJJ classes at MMA gyms.

The ones who claim to be better at something, are the ones who need to prove by showing it. In this case it was the sambo guys who claimed to superior grapplers and submission artists.

It was actually quite surprising to see the dagi team pulling guard. I was sure they would score the two takedown points and then just stall, but they pulled guard, tapped or just quit.

There's no punching in Sport Sambo. Sport Sambo allows limited submissions and the ruleset generally just sucks.
There's a reason you don't see sport sambo guys taking ADCC.

Comparing Combat Sambo to BJJ would be like comparing MMA to BJJ.
