Was talking to a couple co-workers today about legendary athletes and if they would have been the same had they been drafted into other organizations.

For example, if Jordan had went to Portland would he have still been as great and would Portland have won all of those titles that Chicago won?

Do you think that an organization, other players, coaches, etc would affect what an athlete would be able to accomplish?

Completely hypothetical but this started with discussing Aaron Donald and his possibility of being drafted by the Lions. Would he still be dominant without other top defensive linemen like Quinn? Or being in a bad organization like Detroit?

Jordan would have still been Jordan -maybe even crazier stat wise if he doesn't learn to play team ball.

The rings are a different story because you need the team for that. Could have been more, could have been less.

I actually don't think Jordan wins all 6 of the ones he has if he never retires that 1st time and recharges for a year or so.

Dan Marino with the 49ers would've meant championships for him.

What if Malone was in Phoenix and Barkley was in Utah.

Swap Barry Sanders for emmitt smith and the Dallas Line.....

Smith does jack and shit in DET, and Barry is the undisputed GOAT (he is to me already, but still)

Hockey wise; Gretzky would still be great, but his first few years would be different without anderson, kurri and messier had he went to lets say vancouver. Mario would be mario. Jagr would be half of what he is since lemieux and francis helped him greatly (and i love Jagr). Brodeur would've had a hard time considering the devils built the team around him and not many teams would do the same.

I think Jordan is still Jordan, just possibly less chips.

The One True GOAT would be a 10-12x NBA champion without Del Harris and Jim Buss holding him back

This disrespect Emmitt get's in football discussions is completely outrageous.

Quick question to anyone thinks this, as well. What do you think of Jim Brown? If it's not the same exact thing you think about Emmitt Smith, you should go and study the teams (especially the offensive lines) that Jim Brown played with.

As for the subject,

The Cowboys were all ready to draft Jerry Rice before San Fran traded up to the pick before them, and took him. Just imagine the future from that point forward, and how the NFL landscape would've shaped out, if that had happened.

I don't take jim brown that seriously, due to what you mentioned and the fact that he was almost the size of the lineman and way faster. If anything, i'd value Gale Sayers shortlived career more due to how he did it

Regarding basketball, ring count may vary, but at some point, the Jordan's, Magic's, Hakeem's, etc would've picked up at least a ring or two, regardless of team. Hell, Shaq took three separate teams to the Finals(all stacked, though). Football and baseball, where each player basically has one specific function, are different.

The lakers 3peat team was not stacked, neither was the Miami team w/ shaq. The ORL team was the best all around team he was on, w/ young Penny, Dennis Scott, Nick Anderson and Horace Grant.

On LAL, he had kobe, older Horace and then horry, rick fox, and.......near 40 year old shaw? glen rice? Marc Madsen was on that team and getting minutes FFS

.

Brown did play with stud o-lines his entire career but he also had better numbers than Smith, and was a better RB in general.

what if derek jeter was draftedby the indians. would he even be a hall of famer?

Orlando had a couple of other All-Stars and all-around depth. L.A. had another franchise-level player, and a bunch of good role players, with Zenmaster calling the shots. Miami had another franchise-level player, and a bunch of good role players, with Riley pulling the strings. They were all stacked, though the latter two were more top-heavy.

The third and fourth leading scorers in the Finals for the Wade/Shaq heat were Antoine Walker and White Chocolate. That team was in no way, shape or form stacked.
