If GSP was a current day fighter, would he have fought at 155 instead of 170?

GSP is pretty short and only weighs 185 outside of camp, only 30 pounds above lightweight and 1 pound more than what a fighter like Paulo Costa cuts. Hes also a muscular guy, so he could take alot of water out of his muscles during the cut

You mean like if he was the size he is now but ten years younger? Yeah probably.

Probably not, peoppe used to say he was a small ww cause he didn't het fat and was always about 185... But cutting from 185 to 155 is crazy, he would still probably be a ww

I don't know why Costa was mentioned, he's a MW so that doesn't matter. People make the mistake of taking GSP's walk around weight & say therefore he's small. GSP is in great shape yr round, GSP, even at 194 lbs in the cage vs Shields, was still in great shape, he wasn't fat or flabby at all. 170 was the best division for GSP, he'd be killing himself to make 155.

It doesn't matter if 2 guys have a similar walk around weight, what matters is what weight are they at in fighting shape. A lot of fighters get fat or out of shape when they don't have a fight signed. GSP is super disciplined, he stayed in great shape yr round. When GSP was in his prime, no one called him a small WW. He has very thick legs & wide shoulders too

I’m pretty sure he had confirmed he could fight at 155. Didn’t he do a test cut?

GSP has big strong legs which most welterweights do not.

It’s probably what gave him the explosive takedowns.

Without big strong legs I think he wouldn’t have the same wrestling.

He would have had to stay at 170. He is not a small guy. He's built.

Prime GSP in 2021 would be 170 and 185 champs... Just like past his prime , 2 ACL surgeries GSP that went on to do it since the Condit fight...

GSP made Micheal Bisping look skinny fat in the cage at 185

GSP wasnt the biggest 170lber but he was far, far from the smallest. It's a joke how people are pretending like he was small at 170.

Maybe, if he adjusted his diet from his younger days and pushed himself further in the weight cuts. Younger GSP could have, as he gets older probably not.

Prime GSP was a pretty solid and full sized WW. Wasn't the biggest of the big cutters I don't think. But he was a good 190-192 Danaher was saying georges usually weighs.

No, he's not a small welterweight by today's standards. This is why the Khabib "superfight" is nonsense. He started dehydrating at 185. He was a jacked white boy.
