If Demetrious Johnson was the same size as Jones, would he have beaten him easily?

People say this but it is not true. It's just that Uber athletic big guys are less common than Uber athletic small guys. And Uber athletic big guys damn sure aren't competing in MMA for the peanuts that Dana and the UFC are paying

This is literally what pound for pound is supposed to mean. I've always thought it was strange to rank any higher-weight fighter near the top of a pound-for-pound list, because they are literally already the bigger guys. The whole point of pound for pound is supposed to be to discuss the hypothetical of who would win if everyone was the same size. If everyone was the same size, MMA would be dominated by the fighters currently fighting in the lower weight classes. The current heavyweights and light heavyweights would be nowhere to be seen.

The answer is most likely yes.
That's not what P4P means to me. I don't look at it as "who would win if they were the same size?"

I look at P4P as "who is the most impressive champion? Who dominates their division better than all the other champions of other divisions?" Bonus points if someone competes and succeeds in multiple divisions. Of course, Heavyweights don't always have that luxury but sometimes a HW can be so impressive he can be the P4P King for years on end like we saw with Fedor.

Nice to see someone else who gets the concept!

How do you know lhw and hw wouldn't be at the top ? Let me guess you are small and from your perspective bug guys are sloppy and slow. You just don't know what it's like to be heavy and don't realize Dj and 125 135 145 155 looking more skilled is due to light bodies. They are faster and get less tired. Easy to look more skilled.

The reality is the whole pp4 thing is a fantasy and larger man in fact are stronger then the smaller ones.

It's like who is the best 5'7 basketball player. Who is the best NFL player up to 155 pounds. It doesn't exist.

My favorite Kickboxers are Buakaw (155) and Remy (HW) so I'm indeed a big fan of lightweight too. Especially K1 Max.

But these mental mastrubation tactics lighter fans use to pretend they are vicariously better then big guys are fake.

And yes I'm also biased cause I'm large. Well not that tall but heavy.

Is there anything Johnson doesn't do well besides being tall? Would Jones have any chance?
This is a beyond weird thread
The only answer that comes to mind: if mighy mouse was tall, his nickname wouldnt be mighty mouse.

If Dj was 205 maybe he'd be the champ maybe he'd nit be in the UFC. That's a whole other person. That actually doesn't even exist. It's also a different type of fight with 220 power and 140 pound power. The exhaustion damage and athleticism are vastly different.

If DJ was the same size as Jones, he would no longer have the same speed, agility and technique. He would be a completely different fighter. He would probably still be great. If a Light Heavyweight DJ was as studious and worked as hard as the flyweight version he would still be a genius fighter. Of course, this is all hypothetical and impossible. Kinda ridiculous if you ask me.

DJ was extremely dominant and had near perfect skill set. Jones had better names on his resume but of course many of those fighters were far past their best days. Most of Jon's opponents were much older, much smaller and past prime. And of course Jon's best win against DC is tainted as Jones repeatedly cheated and failed drug tests against DC. He had one fight cancelled at UFC 200 because he tested positive for anti-estrogen. He had a win taken away for testing for steroids. His win that still stands from their first fight he submitted extremely suspicious levels of testosterone in a test before USADA.

In that regard I was OK with Volk being the p4p 1. He did look impressive. I was suprised at his performance vs Islam and he destroyed his whole 145 division.

But p4p is a concept and can't be scientifically proven. It's entertainment. And used by the UFC as marketing tool to hype up money bringing fighters.

What if an ant was the same size as Jones? Could Jones beat a human-sized ant? I read that those guys are really strong P4P.

Demetrious Johnson is Jon Jones, those fights he just cuts massive height for.

His speed and agility is greater than his opponents same size as him so it can't be due to his size.

The greatest sprinters arent midgets either so he doesn't need to be slower

Who cares about his name. Do you think Rickson Gracie has worse technique due to his size?

If MM weighed 230 he wouldn't move the same and wouldn't be able to fight at the same pace.

Guys evolve their game based on the tools that work at their weight with their body.

Jones would find a way to win, I mean DJ's not undefeated even in his own weight class.

I ask again: is Rickson Gracie a worse technical grappler due to his size..
