Strange coincidence, yesterday I was thinking that the Bellator champ is kind of like the old school intercontinental champion in wrestling.

HW: Daukas x Aspinall
LHW: Ankalaev x Reyes
MW: Strickland x Gastelum
WW: Masvidal x Ponzinibbio
LW: Fiziev x Tsaryukan
FW: Allen x Giga
BW: Garbrandt x Moraes
FlW: France x Dvorak
WFW: two random
WBW: Vieira x Avila
WFlW: Lee x Fiorot
WSW: Gadelha x Ribas

Lol the IC title , I like it I really do .
To steal another idea from pro wrestling instead of calling it the IC title how about the tv title ? Belts that don’t mean as much as the world title that are always defended on free tv , just to slice up the fight night cards

No, like a second-tier title for fighters that aren't quite top 5 yet, but might be with a couple of wins.

Khamzat would almost certainly be an Intercontinental champion as we speak, for example, because he's got tons of buzz around him.
I actually think it's a good idea and could work.

HW: Tom Aspinall vs Alexander Romanov
LHW: Paul Craig vs Johnny Walker
MW: Sean Strickland vs Nassourdine Imavov
WW: Sean Brady vs Shavkat Rakhmonov
LW: Brad Riddell vs Gregor Gillespie
FW: Giga Chikadze vs Ilia Topuria
BW: Song Yadong vs Adrian Yanez
FLW: David Dvorak vs Sumudaerji

WBW: Julia Avila vs Macy Chiasson
WFLW: Erin Blanchfield vs Casey O'Neill
WSW: Amanda Ribas vs Amanda Lemos
Adrian Yanez Vs Song Yadong would be a banger of a fight. I think Chikadze vs Topuria would be great too.

Depends on the division.
At FW, LW, and LHW Bellator might have the better champions.

Conor vs Nate at WW
Conor vs Poirier at LW
Conor vs Max at FW

Yeah, but sometimes old school WWE the IC champ would be Macho Man or Ultimate Warrior or something (showing my age, probably).

Generally, the bellator champ is a top ten guy in the world, and sometimes can be better, sometimes can be worse.

Fun thread (this could go over like a lead balloon):

If you had to book an Intercontinental-style second belt in each division, how would you book it?

Rules:

- Nobody inside the current UFC top 5 rankings
- Up-and-comers preferred to veterans
- Most fun matches possible
- That's it

If you've never seen WWF/E this might be lost on you, but they effectively used the Intercontinental title as a secondary title for wrestlers just outside the World title picture...

The IC belt could be a shortcut for up and comers to get a title shot or even for veterans to keep their names fresh if they've been inactive. Its a compromise to make fun matchups possible if there was proper and strict rankings system.

A European Title would make more sense.

DLo Brown was the shit back in the day with the head shaking.

I would make it a yearly tournament title, not a regular title to be defended. Let's say fighters ranked 8-15 in each division take part. The winner is crowned the intercontinental champion and gets a mandatory world title shot.

Grand Prix's are tough to do, fighters get injured as they progress, no one likes replacements, they kinda suck.

Bellator tried the tournament format for years and it wasn't great, they don't work out well for ONE Championship either.

The other problem with having a tournament specifically aimed at prospects is that out of 8 fighters, 7 are guaranteed to end up with an L - which isn't ideal.
