i have been a lurker for quite a while only posting once every couple months until the complete meltdown of the message board after the elite XC event. it's getting to the point where it seems ever other post is made by some 14 yr. old trying to get his post count up. as MMA gets more and more popular (and i really think it's about to take the next big step), it's only going to get worse and worse.

i'm all for keeping the message forum as is, however, i'd like to see some type of user rating system implemented where i could quickly rate a poster, just like i'd rate a youtube video.

if you post solid and meaningful information, you're rating will naturally be high. it would be great if there was a separate area where these people could post amongst each other without having to wade through all the bullshit. call it the "positive energy e-dojo" for all i care. it just needs to be done before this turns into a out of control AOL chat room.

i can't be the only who is getting frustrated going through a 10 page thread only to read 10-15 posts that have meat.

    thx..

i don't know what kind of experience the admins have here, but from a developers point of view, it's really not as complex as it seems. it might seem like a huge task because the amount of users already registered. but you don't have to touch each and every user object. all you need to do is add an an extra attribute (user_rating) to each user object, then create a forum and only allow people in the forum who have a high enough rating based on that attribute.

they do the same thing for the OT (i think its called the OT). you can only post there if you have 300 posts. it would be the same concept, but the logic would be looking at the rating rather than post count.

i like the forums here because of the number of people, but there comes a point where there are to many cooks in the kitchen all with different recipes and ideas.

lets give the cooks who are respected by other members of the community their own place to converse if they wish.

    thoughts?

Too many users will neg other users just for the simple fact there is a difference in opinion. Not to mention the power you would be giving trolls. Bad idea IMO. Go plat, they have their own forum.

"Thanks for the avatar, Wamrage". Wam is a mod.

PRIDE nuthuggers will doc UFC nuthuggers and vice versa. People are naturally closed-minded so the ratings will be a bit skewed.

I would hate for users to rate me negatively because my views are different from their's. I hate trolls as much as the next guy but I don't need one more way to get thrown out of Sherdog floating over my head when I post.

Good idea though, I'm just a little apprehensive.

good point. now that i think about it, the more idiots that get on here, the more inaccurate the ratings would be. now that i found out about plat, i'm happy. :D

cool idea but trolls would simply slander posters one after another by giving bad ratings through entire threads.
