Say a round is really close, like 10-10 close or you're just flipping a coin to decide who gets the 10 and who gets the 9. In those cases, the smaller fighter should get a point on the round. If it was going to be 10-10, the smaller fighter should win the round 10-9. If the judges were 50-50 on who gets the 10 and who gets the 9, the smaller fighter should get the 10 and the larger fighter should get the 9.

It will fight against stalling strategies like lay and pray that go against the spirit of the martial arts. Larger men often just use their size to lay on a smaller man and do nothing to "win" the round. That won't happen anymore.

This will help to stop unfair weight cutting. It will also make the size disadvantage more fair.

What do you think? What are other ways to stop unfair weight cutting? What are other ways to make size disadvantages more fair? What are other ways to keep the competition of MMA closer to the spirit of the martial arts?

Nice - get the fighters to literally come in within an inch of their life to take advantage of the 'smaller guy' rule

Kind of feels like 'being the bigger guy' in reverse

PRIDE gave advantages to smaller fighters and they had LESS of a weight cutting problem.

What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

The UFC didn't have a weight cutting issue when Pride was in full flow - for whatever reason, things have changed

I always think of that picture as Anderson's evil twin.

Just as an example, who was smaller? Jones or DC? Jones obviously taller and longer, but DC weighs more.

A lot of people think fighters should get points for "skill". For example, BJJ guys often think people get points for submission attempts because it shows "grappling skill". Submission attempts don't do anything. But they show "skill".

If 2 fighters are fighting to a draw and one guy is larger then the smaller guy had to use more "skill". Most fans agree that "skill" should be rewarded in the judging system.

Pride did a lot of cross weight division fights. They also did a lot of squash matches where people didn't care about giving up a few pounds/kilos. The sport is very different a decade later in the US.

Even in the US weight cutting wasn't as prevalent and/or extreme. A lot of UFC fighters from that era dropped weight classes as it became more standard.

I think your thread and idea fucking sucks.

Where exactly is the evidence that smaller fighters are significantly disadvantaged? Historically, fighters moving up in weight have performed extremely well: RDA, Whittaker, Cormier etc. Meanwhile, countless guys tried to go down and failed miserably. (Stephens being one of the best counter examples to this.)

Put the most skilled MMA fighter of all time against the least skilled MMA fighter of all time. Mighty Mouse vs Bob Sapp. The least skilled MMA fighter of all time wins easily. If Mighty Mouse somehow fights Bob Sapp to a draw, doesn't he deserve the win?

Manlets shouldn't catch a break from judges.

Cleaning your ass with toilet paper is like trying to clean peanut butter off a SOS pad with a paper towel, you are just wasting your time and my time.
