Having FW Champ Holloway be offered up as a sacrificial lamb is pretty asinine. Even if Max pulls it off, it puts both the FW and LW divisions in limbo (again).

Ragin' Al is an actual lightweight and is on a 5 fight win streak, 4 of those being finishes. Dunham could've been moved up to face Felder, and a replacement for Aubin-Mercier could have been found, or the Dunham/OAM fight could've been scrapped outright.

Not ideal, but if they really want a LW title fight/Khabib to remain on this card, pulling up Holloway who was recently injured and not currently in a training camp is fucked.

"I'm not fighting that fucking guy. You kidding me?" - Raging Al talking about Khabib on MMA Hour

They aren't giving that guy a gifted title shot after all the shit he talked about the UFC

Not a big seller. WME has shown us they only care about revenue.

why Al? Felder has been more active

Also no, cos I wanna see the Al vs Felder fight lol

"WHO?!" - every casual in the world

they should get funky to do a catch weight bout with kaboob.

Why? So Khabib haters can hate on him for beating a "can"?

Holloway is the bigger fight though. I ain't mad.

Still would have preferred Ortega.

Al ain't a draw so how could him vs. Khabib generate any sort of PPVs? After the disappointment of losing Tony vs. Khabib AGAIN imagine poor Dana trying to spin Al as being a credible replacement for a PPV headliner? With all the shite Al has said about the UFC they ain't rewarding him with such a high profile fight, plus from what he's said in the past he wouldn't have taken it anyway.

Max is at least a credible headliner & a champion coming up in weight on short notice.

What amazes me is that given the history of both Tony & Khabib they didn't pay Alvarez some money to keep himself in shape & start training towards being a possible replacement, you know, just in freaking case.

You are right and wrong I think. Yes Iaquinta probably deserves that fight more, but I and countless other fighters would like to see Holloway. I think Khabib will walk through him, but I'm not as sold on it as others. I think Holloway has a better chance than Iaquinta. But I'm just glad Khabib is still fighting. So no disrespect in my post, just my opinion too.

Yea the UFC needs to offer themselves insurance. It's kinda like a trip you planned that got cancelled, you need your money back if you pay the insurance. Same principal here, offer Alvarez or (insert fighter) a significant amount to stay in shape and fill in if the big fights lose one of the fighters for whatever reason. It's simple to just cancel the small fights, but these big fights need to have a backup plan each time. And by back up, a solid back up plan. If the fight is not cancelled, then alvarez just made $20k or so. In the long run, that insurance will pay dividends for the potential lost revenue for cancelling a fight or having a scrub step in. Not suggesting Holloway is a scrub, just in general. But how many fights have we seen get cancelled, or events in general get cancelled.

He's a way less interesting fight than Max. His best win is Diego Sanchez.

I never thought I’d hear people bitch this much at what is basically a champion vs champion fight. The fight could have easily been cancelled with Khabib off the card altogether... count your blessings
