I went to the UFC 199 Q&A and
weigh-ins and had a blast.
I arrived early and ran into Clay Guida's whole family. I am a big Guida fan, so this was pretty awesome for me. I was guessing by the shirt Guida's mom was wearing, she doesn't shy away from attention. I started talking to the family. Guida's mom was wearing a shirt that said,"Guida's mom" which was perfectly bad ass for a proud momma bear to wear.
We chatted it up for a while and I told them what a big fan I was of their son and that I'll be cheering for him. They were digging my kid, so it was cool. I actually kept running into Guida's dad over and over again. I thought I was making awkward for him, but he kept talking to me every time I passed, so it seemed cool. As I was finishing up a beer outside, Poppa Guida actually walked up and started talking to me about some stupid ass protesters that were protesting the event. The Guida's were pretty sweet and Poppa Guida looks just like baby Guida.
The Q&A with Demetreious Johnson was cool; plenty of seating. Afterwards DJ was taking a few pics near the stage and we landed a great pic with Mighty Mouse. DJ seemed a bit intimidated to hold my little man, but he made it work, which was awesome.
And I don't know if you notice the guy in the upper left? That's the one and only Jacare'. He was so cool and started taking pics with a few people. Jacare' actually asked to hold my son, and you can tell he's super cool with kids.
Jacare' was a big treat. I wasn't expecting to see Jacare' there, and I'm a huge Jacare' fan, so that was dope.
In between the Q&A, we ran into Ariel Helwani again. He actually saw the blurry picture I posted on Sherdog and Instagram yesterday, and he said,"we have to do a new photo. I saw the old pic and we have to redo it."
He actually remembered my son's name, which was so nice of him. So we retook the pic, which was cool of Ariel. My kid finally cracked a smile for a pic; a rare occurrence.
Ariel is super nice and definetly made me a fan for life.
In between the Q&A, they filmed a short segment for one of my favorite shows, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. The episode will have Donald Cerrone come out for a weigh in; another one of my favorite fighters. He happened to come out as I was right in front of the stage.
Unfortunately, for the actual weigh in, I stayed near the back, so my son wouldn't disturb anybody. So no great pics from the weigh-in itself, but you all can find those anywhere.
Today was pretty damn fun. I can't wait until tomorrow for the actual fights.
