I'm not talking about sloppy axe kicks thrown by guy like Bendo. I mean Bendo is so over-rated on Sherdog it's insane.

I never thought we'd see so many diverse set of kicks being thrown inside the cage, but we are, but one kick that we don't really see is the axe kick, the most devastating kick in my opinion if landed right.

That would be something.
It is rare enough though, even in professional kickboxing as less karateka and tkd practitioners participate.

There have been a couple. I cant think of the most recent one I seen but I loved it. When ever I see one thrown my immediate reaction is "this guy wants to kill the other motherfucker!" Its just such a bad intentioned strike.

can be a devastating kick, but the risk of takedown is too great in mma

The only reason you wanna see axe kicks is it sounds cool. Had it been called "LOL, your mom is real angry", you wouldn't wanna see it.

Guess what, if it had been effective, you would have seen it more often.

Crocop is the only one to bless us with axe kicks, and Conor with hook kicks.

Jones threw one in the past couple fights. They all look the same now, can't remember who it was but it was fast and smooth.

A few question marks are thrown. I see them and remark on them at the time.
The most notable recently was Reyes in R1 against Jan
Think wonderboy knocked some poor guy senseless with one but it was a long time ago. While question mark and axe kicks are fun to look at, they are not always the best option.

Axe kicks are high risk and dubious reward. They require a level of flexibility and speed that most fighters simply don't have, and it's not really worth training to do the splits when there's a million other things you could be working on.
