I know this thread is 100 years too late...and its a topic that was covered for many years. But many years later...what happened that night? Did Shamrock take a dive or was he just afraid of Franklin? I googled for the answer and of course I couldnt find a solid explanation.

What is the overall consensus?

Well the fight didn't end there, he went for an ankle lock or whatever right after.

Actually in that gif Shamrock is going for his specialty which is a leglocks, look again.

Shamrock was undersized for that division, frame-wise. He didn't want to stand and trade with Franklin. Smarter move to take it to the sub game.

He's going down for a leglock but got clipped on the way down.

The fight didn't end there.

Jesus Christ, there should be a sticky for this shit.

If you'd take a look at more than that tiny gif, you could clearly see what Shamrock was attempting to do.

If you watch the fight instead of the gif it's pretty easy to explain.

Take a look at the next few seconds

It is admittedly shady looking but the TUF 1 finale would have been a risky time to take a dive considering the high stakes and exposure of the event.

Why do people always think Shamrock takes a dive is it really that crazy to think he's just 50+ years old and has been fighting past his prime since the late 90s????

That didn't finish the fight. I honestly never understood the controversy, It was just a mistake by Ken. He looked uncomfortable and out of his depth at that point against Franklin.

And I still can't blieve someone actually still thinks that is the fight ending gif. Its a pull guard leglock attempt.

Key in on Shamrock's feet before he falls. That shit is not even remotely explainable.

He was going for Rich's leg while he swinging, and he was avoiding to get hit at the same time so he slipped and it looked like he dived.
That's how I saw it.

Good call, Threepwood.
Likewise, Archer.
When you get owned in a thread
Eh, when you just watch the gif you posted, it definitely looks shady as hell. It's a fair question. I'm more annoyed with the guys who've been here for ages who keep dragging this up again and again without really answering why they still think it's a work after seeing more than two seconds taken out of context.

That's pretty much how it made me feel watching it - just past his game.
