Because of his guillotine. Guess what, it's not 2009 any fucking more, and his shit hasn't worked since then. He's not an elite grappler and his fight IQ is next to non-existent these days.

Every time he rocks his opponent and has them in trouble, he ignores his strengths and jumps in their face looking for that ancient relic of a guillotine that was last effective when Strikeforce was still a thing.

He's getting old and he already has way more mileage than he should, having 13 of his 17 losses coming from KO and being knocked unconscious in 3 of his last 5 fights.

He should consider changing his style, maybe even coaches, or retire.

I just want him to retire on a win he and the era he represents deserve it

He was a great grappler, he dominated Frank Mir on the ground and easily stopped Brock's TDs. He's just OLD and Blaydes is the black Hulk.

He had a good guillotine when he had long skinny arms.

Then he got uber.

Now he'll be driving for Uber.

I agree, minus the unnecessary animosity.

He went for a heel hook and not many fighters get it that far cranked. He has skills. Just he doesn't have that explosive oomph that the early 2000s horsemeat provided. These horses just not as strong as they used to be.

He is a good grappler. He just went up against a better grappler. Being a good grappler doesn't mean he's the best and no one can it grapple him.

RDS is a great grappler. He ran into a better one. It happens.

Im sure he's still a good grappler.

But Blaydes is a much much much better wrestler. Is much younger and probably has more functional strength

That fight isn't really indicative of this fight, at all. Because RDA showed in that fight he was just as good a grappler as Covington.

Being cage humped with no effective strikes =/= being the better grappler. RDA took him down just as easy. Neither had top control for more than a few seconds or threw any significant offense during the time.

Overeem gets styled on by the likes of Miocic and Blaydes because of his proclivity to try and Guillotine better grapplers.

Overeem is a competent grappler because heavyweight has the lowest average skill, depth and athleticism in MMA.

We're still shuffling around the old farts of yesteryear in the upper weight divisions. Let Overeem fight some unranked guys and he'll be a much better grappler. Let him fight the handful of competent fighters that exist in the division, and he'll get knocked out every third fight or so, staying on brand.

Also factor in the guy was likely on steroids his entire career as Ubereem, and most certainly during the successful run he had that ended in a failed PEDS test.

You're changing what the discussion is about. I was just giving an example. My point is that being out grappled by some of your opponents doesn't mean you suck at grappling.

He's 40 years old and has had 75 pro fights. Maybe you expect too much at this point. He is fighting because the UFC pays him $500,000 per fight, and I doubt that will last much longer.

Blaydes is a freak. Him and Ngannou are the two strongest dudes in the sport.

His opponent was 11 years younger than him you idiot.

Yea he had good grappling pre 2010 in Dream yet this mystic gullitine is constantly mentioned.
