its not a sport. its entertainment. remember that. entertainment at the cost of the physical health of young athletes. don't try and pretend its something its not. the refs the judges the bookies, to the people managing the fighters and the events. things happen this is not a clean respectable sport. its an entertainment business. there are other factors at play too when they really want one guy to win over the other or they want one guy to take a little more punishment before its stopped.
it would be less garbage if they at least retired wealthy but instead the ufc is basically the pool that builds talent to fight jake paul once they have left their prime and are near or above 40 and then those fights sell to millions of young fans because thats what they really want to see. not legitimate sport just entertainment .

You really think THIS is the example to make this argument? Yeah, I'm sure the promoters told the ref to "let that little fuck die in there". Because the politics in a small organization like this are so deep rooted and complex...

When refs make a mistake like that, they should lose their job immediately. No room for mistakes when people's lives are on the line.

There needs to be a mechanism for someone else to stop the fight. Cageside ref, doctor, etc. You have to wonder how long this buffoon would have let this go. Just incredible.

Isn’t there a training system for officials? I find it hard to believe that somebody could be this incompetent, yet qualify for a license. Or does it not work that way? Is it like driving where they let anybody get a driver’s license?

It's a government job. He's probably the cousin of one of the commissioners or something. Why would a commissioner fire his cousin just because some no name almost got killed?

I've never really understood this dichotomy that seemingly half of Sherdog loves. All pro sports are entertainment. Now there is a thing called sports entertainment, but that is closely defined as athletic activities in which no actual competition takes place, ie pro wrestling or the Harlem Globetrotters or Smurfs on Ice or what have you.

If your point is that MMA as a whole is run poorly, I think many fans might agree. But saying it isn't a sport is silly.
