I love how Shogun fans like to rewrite history.

It's a fact that most people thought that Shogun would beat Jones. They were ignoring Jones greatness at the time and picking Shogun who was clearly at a huge disadvantage. Here's just some of the proof of that. There was a poll on Sherdog forums as well where a ton of people picked Shogun.

However, a day after the fight all those years ago I saw people claiming "everyone" knew Bones was going to win and act as if it were just a foregone conclusion. Anyone who said Bones would beat Shogun got shit on. And on top of that people were mad at Jones for think he was too new school for Shogun. People called him disrespectful. This is reality not the rewritten history everyone wants you to believe.

Jones destroyed him and Shogun fans haven't been the same since.

Holy shit that poll is gold! Shogun fans delusional as usual.

It took Shogun fans a while to come to the realization that Shogun tapped to strikes too. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I legit saw someone say " Shogun didn't tap, he just hit the mat to say 'you got me' "

I find this thread to be extremely topical and relevant to the MMA/Sherdog landscape of 2016.

iirc Jones was the favorite in that fight as well. So even the bookies knew there was going to be an ass whippin' and it wasn't going to be Bones getting son'd.

I loved every second of it though. It was one of the most if not the most brutal, systematic dismantling of a champion we've ever seen. The fact that people thought Shogun was going to "chop those chicken legs down" just made it all the sweeter.

A bunch of people sided with the guy they were rooting against after he won?

That's unheard of. Especially for sherdog.

To be fair Shogun was coming off another ACL tear and hasn't really looked good since that fight.

"Shogun will break Jones' chicken legs with his kicks."

"Shogun will deal just fine with Jones' frame like he did with Reem X2 and Diabate."

"New breed is a myth."

I am a Shogun fan and I can say as fact he was never the same after the Coleman fiasco.

Apparently TS has been stewing about this great injustice for 5 years, waiting for the perfect opportunity to unleash this thread

I like this "i told you so" after the fact.

Where is your post detailing the beating Shogun was going to receive?

What's next, you gonna post the poll of people picking Ronda to armbar Holly?

Shogun fan here. No uber-fan of anybody, though.

For me, that fight was an awesome display of dominance by JJ.

It was also a very sad and clear signal that Shogun was well and truly broken.

Shogun is awesome because I thought he was done after his incredibly sad looking 'victory' over Coleman.

The fact that he got the belt after that felt like more than I should ask for. Both Machida fights were awesome. After that, it's all been borrowed time.

I don't really understand your disapproval of being a fan of a fighter you don't personally like, though. Every fighter has annoying fans. Lumping us all together and starting a thread just to bash Shogun fans is a little desperate and pathetic, IMO.

I had to vote to see what the results were. But I really came in here to read someone say something about Shogun's knees and how that was his problem.

I can't believe how people thought Coenen was going to beat Tate, Tate's a beast! Her wins over Holm and McMann prove nobody should've picked against her. It was obvious that a blue belt or whatever at the time in BJJ plus high school wrestling was better than black belt BJJ.

Lol. This. Why is the TS so bitter? He obviously hates Shogun. Shogun got destroyed. Thus TS should be happy.

I remember after the fight all the Shogun nuthuggers saying that he would win a rematch.

How did Sherdog react after Griffin vs Shogun 1?

The game of MMA is not fair unless it's at HW because Jones looked like a giant next Rua and since the random testing started just recently, we can't say who or what, you get my drift. That's why the real goat is at the HW'S and not at the fake other weight classes! Jones owned Rua because Rua won't evolve so congrats Bones!
