I haven't watched a full card in more than a year

There aren't any interesting story-lines anymore. No exciting up and coming prospects (the few there are, are getting unranked opponents one after another. Dana prefers to lowball the big names so the fights everybody wants to see don't get made or take years to get made when both parties are past their prime. Constant rematches for the belt. It's getting more and more boring. Wake me up when the sport gets exciting again

Amateur.

I haven't watched a full card in ten years.

That's another point. I feel like 90% of the fighters these days on a given card aren't on the level they were 5 years ago
Like damn maybe I'm just jaded but it also feels like the overall quality of the average signed fighter has dropped?

Rose tinted glasses imo. If you look at fighters the UFC signed in 2017 then yes of course there are some good ones like there are every year but there's also Suman Mokhtarian, Wulji Buren, Ariel Beck, Salim Touahri, Syuri Kondo, Mike Santiago, Nick Roehrick, Rachael Ostovich, Rolando Dy, Nadia Kassem, Rashad Coulter, Michel Quinones, Joseph Morales, Mara Romero Borella, Luke Jumeau, Marcelo Golm, Kalindra Faria, Emily Whitmire, Devin Powell, James Bochnovic, Galore Bofando, Gina Mazany, Jodie Esquibel, Cindy Dandois, Andre Soukhamthath, Chan Mi Jeon, Carls John De Tomas, Daniel Teymur, Daniel Spitz, Bharat Kandare and many more before I got bored listing the average or worse fighters signed that year.

''No exciting up and coming prospects.'' [<diva2]{<diva}
That’s a more impressive start than even bones Jones

Thanks for the update. I was just wondering when the last time you watched a full card was.

Hilarious. I’d argue this kind of response is facilitating degeneracy. You’re disregarding warranted criticism and accepting an inferior product (or at least pretending to) for likes and votes.

I’m gonna go with
C. I’m just a smart ass.

I’m too old to care about likes and votes. I just say smart ass things from time to time to give myself a chuckle.

Your loss, dude. Last year had so many amazing events.
Can you name the so many events?
I am going just by memory, but last year and year before feel like UFC swindled us with the big cards. The one I remember that I enjoyed was Ortega Volk. Why waste TWO Usmans title reign fights on journeyman Jorge? Or Colby? Volk vs Max 1,2? Rose Vs Weili 1,2? Moreno Vs Fig 1,2,3...maybe 4....
Lhw is clusterfuck, Izzy who was promoted as next Andy gets boddied by Jan, who loses his next title defence like journey man. Oh and when finally Amanda loses they gonna do another rematch straight again. Dustin Vs Conor were lackluster events etc. Even Nganoun Vs Gane was dissapointing. It just feels like UFC is forcing the matchmaking too much and it keeps backfiring.

Are you just a loser with no friends? You are fucking posting on an mma forum and you don't even watch mma anymore?

I think too few WMMA fights per event has a lot to do with the lack of excitement in the sport. I hope the UFC keeps working on bringing gender equality to mma.

When I first joined a baseball forum ~15 years ago, guys would routinely whine about how the team/game wasn't the same as it was in the 70's or whatever. It's the same fuckin shit here.

One big difference is I don't see fans of MLB, NBA, NFL or NHL crying about how much better it would be it there were only 8 teams per league and 75% fewer games.

Serious Response.

From my view in the last year, the best actual fights have been on the undercard... Period.

I understand your post and am especially disappointed with a few PPV's... I did not watch the last one and am going to be very motivated to skip PPVs with limited excitement at the top of the card.... So throw rocks at me for not "streaming" if you like... that's just how I roll.

But for pure enjoyment of good high level fights? The talent on the undercards has not disappointed.

That is actually not what I’m saying at all. I’m literally talking about the matchmaking at the tops of cards, not complaining that there’s too many cards and talent is spread thin.
But it’s alright, forget it. From what I’m gathering in this thread, those posters who aren’t struggling with the sport feeling stale like some of us are, don’t seem to understand the points that are being made. Which I guess is understandable since they can’t relate.
<WhatItIs>
Ok you clearly have something to say, so I respectfully went back and read the thread. It’s hard to debate any one thing because what TS is saying isn’t what you’re saying, but you’re defending as if they are all one argument.

Here are some of the arguments so far:
  • Matchups are stale (yours)
  • Not enough story line (TSs)
  • There are enough story lines but they’ve become lazy (yours)
  • Main event should be more highly anticipated (yours)
  • Overall cards are too weak to watch in entirety (TSs)
  • But, when main even matchups do have decent story lines, they’re weak matchups and / or stale stories (yours)
So, question: Would you say that your biggest complaint (in this thread at least) is that the UFC continues to promote via story lines (which is fine), but said story lines have become stale and lazy (which isn’t fine)? Which has made watching UFC a bit stale for you? Especially the main events - which makes sense, because the undercards don’t really have stories?
