I have a question for those Sherdoggers who actually fight in MMA or train fighters

When training for a fight, if the fight is 3 rds., do you train for it specifically? That is, do you have a strategy prior to the fight on what you intend to do each and every rd? How bout a 5 rd fight? Do you train to go the long haul and thus your strategy is vastly different thus affecting your cardio.
I tend to remember Mcgregor gassing early in the 1st Diaz fight due to his strategy and lack of cardio
But was Conor the exception and the victim of his own doing?

You will get great advice here, Sherdog is full of athletic hard-working specimens<Gordonhat>

The training and game plan is the same for 3 or 5 rounds: KO the muthafuka in the first round.

My cardio is off the hook, much like the Diaz bros. Along with being 6ft,8 260 pounds 8% body fat etc. I only train UFC brah. And unless I am in a championship fight I don't train cardio at all.
Does that answer your question?

Im 6'6" and 250lbs, A level athlete, shredded and absolutely drug free like my Sherdog brethren.

I do MMA and honestly, you dont train that much differently. You have to put in more cardio. We dont need cardio though, its always KO round 1. Ive personally never had anyone go past 2 minutes in the cage.

Always train like you are going 5 rounds on the cardio side. As far as game planning i would say that is more based on your opponent than anything else. You can't really plan what to do each round, what your opponent does dictates what you need to do. You cant plan on them playing into your three round gameplan at every move.

Your gameplan is more based on how to handle specific scenarios that opponent may present. You look at his tendencies and train hard on the areas he presents the most danger to you in.

I can confirm this.

Im 7 feet tall 350 pounds with 6% body fat

I train to go 20 rounds easily but I've won every fight by earth shattering ko in the first 15 seconds

Sorry i couldnt be more help

When I fight in 3 round fights, I spar for 5 rounds at 5 minutes each. Your game plan just depends on what you’re good at and also what your opponents wesknesses are.

In five round fight I usually spar 8 rounds at five minutes each. By the end of camp i can do either and not be too gassed out. In fight stuff is completely different then camps tho. I’ve been in amazing shape and gassed hard by the end just from adrenaline and trying to finish a guy.

You'll hear different things from different people.
I have only fought in amateur bouts but I always train pretty much the same. I might go to another class a day or train something more specific during my fighter training, but for the most part, I try to train as often as I can during the week.
I'm sure many guys don't train all the time and their fight camp is probably specifically tailored to getting back in shape and ready for a specific opponent.

But as I said before, it's different concerning other people and other camps, etc.
