I guess the precedent for a title shot has changed.

BJ also got a title shot against Hughes (second time) after losing the #1 contenders match against GSP.

But in this case, even if Diaz had won, it would've been changed to a NC - weed. In this case, Hendricks is perfectly in line for a title shot and IMO Diaz should get another W before getting his.

I repeat, Couture was handed a title shot after two losses in a row in the division.

Meanwhile, Diaz just had one controversial decision for the interim belt.

More importantly, Couture (at the time) and Diaz (now) are fighters the fans want to see fight the champ. The fight makes perfect sense.

It makes sense, but GSP/Hendricks makes way more sense to me.

Im pulling for Hendricks to win the WW belt.

Go get em Johnny.

Yeah but at the time the HW division did not have a #1 contender waiting in the wings like Hendricks. That is not exactly the same. Plus the UFC HW division sucked then.

Hendricks didn't become the #1 contender until a couple weeks ago. Hendricks was never waiting in the wings. Diaz has had to sit out and wait out his #1 contendership for a year on account of a bullshit decision by NSAC.

That's cool. I'm a Diaz fan, so I'm pretty elated by this news. I respect Hendricks a lot as a fighter though, so dangerous. Whoever wins, GSP or Diaz, will surely be defending next against him anyway.

Was'nt he constantly hurt? Johnny is perfectly healthy.

The point is, that shit doesn't mean anything.

"Contendership" is just an offshoot of rankings, which we all know mean nothing.

It is a fan friendly fight, lets hope he puts up a better showing then he did in the Condit fight.

Right after he lost he cried about the loss and took his ball and went home. For all the crying people do about certain other champions they sure love the antics of the Diaz brothers.

Lets hope he puts on a good fight, Condit easily decisioned Diaz and I think he could do it again.

I would rather GSP challenged himself against Silva but the Diaz fight isnt bad. I think Nick is a bit overrated but hopefully he puts on a good fight against GSP.

boxing does do the same thing.

Yeah. Bottom line is great fights are coming our way.

keep winning your fights and your time will come.

GSP won't be running from him so it shouldn't be a problem.

Diaz had a point. Very controversial fight.

Regardless, that's in the past now. Condit is in the back of the line, and Diaz is up front. As it should be.

I like Hendricks and he probably deserves the title shot, but I have no problem with Diaz getting it first, because he and GSP should have fought a year ago anyway. Plus, if I have GSP/Diaz or GSP/Johny then purely as a fan, I prefer GSP/Diaz. GSP will win by humping him for 5 rounds anyway, then we will see Diaz cuss somebody out afterwards and probably quit MMA again anyway.

exactly.

i used to get upset that UFC didn't have a structure for who got the title shot (e.g. it wasn't based on merit). but my thinking has changed.

a) MOST of the time, the one who deserves it and the one everyone wants to see are the same
b) the FEW TIMES it's not the case, Dana is choosing the fight he thinks the fans want to see.

and once i saw it in that light, i chose to quit getting my panties in a bunch over the fact that once a year or so Dana tries to give fans the fight they want to see instead of the one they don't want to see.

and, if Hendricks swallows his pride and fights and wins, he'll definitely be next. what's another 9 months in the grand scheme of things? rule #1; don't get anxious over things out of your control. what Hendricks CAN control is getting another fight and winning it. the rest will take care of itself. the ONLY decent argument against this (IMHO) is the "but that makes it an illegitimate 'sport'" argument. and considering this sport took off because of a reality show, i don't give that argument much credence either, frankly.

hope all that makes sense. cheers.

making a fight with a suspended fighter,lol

I really have no problem with Diaz/GSP, only because I've wanted to see this fight for some time. The Sonnen/Jones bout on the otherhand, is an absolute joke.

It's all about the money

As much as I hate to agree with this, it's revenue, viewership and PPV buys that drive the wheels on the UFC express... Reality is that the Sonnen's, Diaz's and Lesnar's of the world draw the huge numbers....

100% agree. No seriously, what's one more fight for Hendricks? If he can't get another win, then that shows he's not ready to be champion.

No. It's on account to him using banned substances. Stop with the lame excuses and allow Diaz to man up and take just criticism.

Nope, the precedent never changed. It has always been about putting on entertaining fights. In your fantasy land, there is a such thing as "deserves" and "earned", but that doesn't matter. And this is true for other fighting organizations as well. Pride, K-1, boxing, etc.
