Who besides me thinks its time for Joe to hang it up?

I think it is a great thing that now we have a whole generation of fighters who are retiring and becoming Referees, judges and color commentators.

Joe Rogans job... is to entertain. Now you're gonna say "no, commentating is his job".
Thats his specific job. His bigger picture, general job, is to entertain. ANYONE can commentate. you literally just say words in the mic.
but not everyone can be a good commentator because you need to be entertaining to be good.

Its like with Colby and Cejudo... theyre playing around with the audience... to be entertaining.
The difference between the higher paid fighters and the lower paid fighters.... is how entertaining they are.

Joe rogan... is doing the same exact thing. He wants to increase the excitement by stretching the truth. some might say hes stretching it too far and it might turn them off, just know that your are in the minority. people dont want the truth, they just want to be entertained.

I appreciate that you value truth that much though, not a lot of people do.

I'd still prefer him to stay, but I just don't like his finality when he thinks something's over. He used to not act like "yep, it's over. He's done/out/has to tap" but would ride the wave until the ref stops it. Now it's like any time a fighter gets hurt they're immediately done and the fight needs to be stopped or a submission is in and treats it as a lock. Kinda annoying.

His cognitive ability is fading fast. I'm thinking the alpha brain supplements have side effects because of how drastically he's declining. His skill on the mic is at best half what it was 2 years ago. I could see Dom talking Dana into firing him after a few more bad shows.

Mir, Hardy, Cormier, Stann or Sonnen would all be better at this point.

I'm kinda indulgent with Joe.

He probably has some guy in his ear telling him what to say. He's not "the expert" anymore at the commentary table. It's the fighter's job to give a precise analysis of the fight. Joe's just here as a familiar voice to hype it up.

No way, he missed so many points of action at the last event. Dom would talk then give Joe a few moments to comment on the action and it was awkward silence while Joe said nothing.

He used to occasionally slip up, but these days he feels like Goldie; just constantly making distractingly bad calls.

I've always loved Rogan, but these days if Rogans commentating and Herb Dean is reffing they need to play some Benny Hill music. Always a bias these days and constant errors from them both. If Rogan likes a fighter he will hype every jab or shot

Yeah he is getting older and probably won't do it for much longer. The problem is, there is no one who could really replace him

I thought Rogan ran with narratives made from his expectations and hardly called the action years ago. Then suddenly he would see one thing land and focus on that too much, talking about it in detail while more significant things happened that he'd just ignore. Also he seemed extremely biased some of the time.

I always mute the commentary if it is a fight I care about and he is commentating. Been doing that for like 3-4 years, so if you guys are saying hes bad now and how you thought he was good back then... makes me curious how he has evolved

Maybe you just became haters and he is great. I just became a hater a bit earlier.

This certainly does seem to be the new thing from Joe. One calf kick and he's spouting this nonsense followed by the "I can't believe people didn't use these before"
