I don't get all the hate for the fight from supposed 'hardcore' MMA fans. Maybe it wasn't the most exciting fight for casual fans, but to those who have watched and understand the intricate maneuvers from the fighters it was an insanely tense, technical wizardry of a fight between two of the top three WWs on the planet and maybe between two of the p4p best fighters in MMA. Rory was rolling for heels, Wonderboy was showing off his insane timing and striking prowess. Rory landed a few very hard shots, esp coming out of the clinch, and Thompson had some very good leg kicks to go with his sneaky punches and body blows.

I can't believe all these supposed devoted fans who enjoyed the LHW fight that saw the fighters, not in the top 25, jus standing in the pocket trading blows with very little technical thought. I enjoyed all, the excitement of Cerrone/Cote and the LHW fight and the tense, technical battle at WW. So GTFO with all the talk about how boring it was, it was nowhere near as boring as a LnP fight that saw someone score a sloppy TD and throw pitter patter blows jus to appear active.

It wasn't a bad fight but it was uneventful and pales in comparison to something like Bosse vs O'Connell

Anyone who says they enjoyed the main event more than Bosse/O'Connell is a lying hipster

I enjoyed it too and the fight made me realise that Wonderboy is actually even better than I thought he was.

Completely agree. Unfortunately that fight was lost on those who don't understand the technical side of striking.

Good technical battle. As it got past the third though I knew there was no chance for a finish.

I didn't think it was boring but different people watch the sport for different reasons. I'm definitely the type of hardcore fan who doesn't really understand striking or grappling that well. I liked the Bossé fight a lot more, it was delirious.

I agree with your first 2-3 sentences (too lazy to read the rest, tbh).

But, judging by your first 2-3 sentences, I'll assume I agree with the rest of your thesis!

That's not true, at all. I enjoyed the O'Connel fight for what it was, a sloppy slugfest between mediocre fighters (comparatively, those dudes would push my shit in) but I enjoyed Rory/Wonderboy more because it showcased the most technical of MMA striking between two of the very best.

When you envision a Rory Wonderboy fight this is not what your thoughts come up with.

Well unless you're really boring.

I wanted to see this fight go everywhere and be action packed. It was neither.

Sure it was exciting, but in a different way. A battle of who's the most technical guy.
Still, I was a little bit disappointed tbh. I wanted to see more of what we all know they are capable of.
But definitely didn't hate the fight. It was decent.

I have it as the exact opposite. I appreciate Rory/Thompson for the good technical fight it was (albeit people here are overrating just how "technically brilliant" it was. It was pretty uneventful at times which people are passing off as technique), and loved the display of heart and toughness that Bosse/O'Connell showed.

It's not just limited to Bosse/O'Connell though. Jones/Gustafsson is a fight between two infinitely skilled fighters but it was still exciting. You can be technically sound and still put on an exciting fight. Rory/Thompson is really hard to classify as "exciting."

I enjoyed the fight. Rory could have put a little more force into his performance but he's trained with Thompson in the past and likely knew spamming double legs wasn't going to get the job done. Thompson appeared to be the physically strongest of the two as well.

Thompson is on fire right now. He may be the best WW. His undressing of Hendricks and then actually dissecting Rory(which is the first i've seen that happen to Rory). We've seen Rory get beat but not picked apart. I think he will beat either Lawler or Woodley. Plus, he came out to a Tenacious D song and didn't feel like a joke.

But we're talking about enjoyment of a fight, not it being exciting, my friend. I think there's a difference.

I enjoy Dominick Cruz' fights and enjoyed them when many were criticising him for his "Decision8or" style. But I didn't think and still don't think his style is exciting - at least compared to a Robbie Lawler or a Condit or a Mark Hunt....or Bosse/O'Connel, which was terrific.

Some fights I enjoy on a technical level, but I'd freely admit if every fight looked like a Cruz fight or Rory/Wonderboy then I'd be less interested in the sport,

Are we? TS mentioned excitement in the very next sentence, so I just went off of that. Of course it wasn't a "bad" fight as far as skill-wise goes. You can't take many risks against Thompson due to his ability to land a killshot in an instant, but that's exactly what made it boring in some peoples eyes.

I'm with you there. I don't want every fight to be the exact same either. And I do enjoy Cruz and did enjoy GSP.

But their fights actually have more action than what we saw yesterday. And in both of their cases, the fact that they're so much better than most of their competition is what makes it entertaining for me. Rory/Thompson was just... 5 rounds that were all moderately close but with the decision not being in doubt.

I'll take every fight looking like a Cruz fight over every fight looking like what we saw yesterday any day of the week.

question is can he take those big shots from the champ like he got landed on him from rory

I liked it but I thought it had the potential to be better just by Rory throwing a little more, he just seemed like he didn't give a fuck, he was having mild success every time he threw. WB classy at the end of the post-fight makes him impossible not to like except you just hate good people, let's see him vs. Lawler.

Top bolded: fairy muff, I just went off thread title, TS needs to straighten out what he is opining!

Bottom bolded: good thing we don't have to choose either, MMA is so much fun because it's unpredictable.

Still wish you'd tell my why we can't get close, but maybe you can't because telling me would require us to be close already?
